Brand New Aspire 4830; been sat boxed for some time. Powered on did the self build but the touchpad does not respond. Buttons work fine; tried updating drivers/rolling back. External mouse works, Any ideas why the touchpad is not working; tried the hotkey too

Sounds like you're unlucky & have a faulty touchpad. Providing it is still within the warranty period contact Acer for your region for a repair. If it is out of warranty, try your local PC repair store.
