i have an acer travelmate 5520 and recently upped the system to widows 8. since then my disc drive has stopped working.

the disc drive is listed in my computer and in the devices manager, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but didnt work. when putting in a disc i get a quiet groaning sound so i took the drive out and cleaned it as best i could. now it is making more of an effort to load the disc but still isnt managing to do so, my cursor does show the little disc next to it like its trying to load. someone said the drive may of died, but do they just die? i dont believe it has as its sound has improved since the clean, but still not enough to load.

when i say its listed in my computer, its listed under devices with removeable storage, but no longer under the left hand panel when you drop down the my computer menu, it used to be!

could someone please help!

i have 2gb ram,

32x operating system and x64 based processor
