I am having problems with sleep functionality on my new Acer Aspire S7. I am running Windows 8.1.
When I close the lid, it normally just goes to sleep, but sometimes when I open the lid the screen remains black. If I close the lid again and open it, sometimes it wakes up but other times it starts a fresh boot and I have to log into Windows again (feeling like it crashed). This happens frequently enough that it is extremely frustrating. I cannot rely on having any open documents.
Is this a known issue? Is there an updated driver that I should look at installing? I already tried disabling hybernation and hybrid sleep modes.

Did it work properly under Windows 8?
It's possible that something during the upgrade to Windows 8.1 is causing an issue.
Any available drivers will be available on our Drivers site.

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it works:
a. Open Device Manager
Windows 7: By clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.
Windows 8: Press and hold the Windows logo key and X key ---> Select Device Manager.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
b. In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to allow for waking your computer, and then double-click the device name.
c. Click the Power Management tab and then click the “Allow this device to wake the computer” check box.
d. Click OK

What device in device manager would I use for 'the lid'?
I don't know if the machine worked with Windows 8. I need to use Enterprise edition so that I can get access to my corporate network, so I installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition using an advanced install and paving over the existing Acer installation.

Please review this article: Installing a different Operating System
Enterprise edition is not supported by Acer.
You would need to seek assistance from Microsoft or your IT department.

I updated with some of the newer Windows 8.1 drivers and the problem seems to have gone away. I think it was the video drivers.

I have the same problem, running Windows 8.1, and couldn't get it to work even though I updated most drivers. My problem appears when the screen goes to sleep, and it won't come on after this, even though it appears that the computer is on and you can "use" it.
What can I do?

I am having the same problem. It is even worse when the computer is left on with the screen up and it goes into sleep or hibernation mode. This is when it is harder to get back. I have had to turn the computer over and press the battery reset button a couple times now.
I am on windows 8.1 as well, what can be done?

remove (leave) homegroup. if you have intel rapid start running, turn it off. hope this helps.

Mine is doing the same thing and yes, it's since the update to 8.1. I have to reboot the system to wake it up.
