Ah, I can now see the little shield in my taskbarand when I hover the mouse over it, it says"Downloading updates 0%, so maybe something is happening? Watch this space

Not working. Been stuck on 0% for an hour now, and the CPU is running at 100% most of the time. Running out of ideas now.

My Acer Aspire One ZG5 running XP SP3 has the same problem. Tried to update windows and get the screen that says it's checking for updates but won't go beyond that. Restored the computer to factory setting and it's still the same thing. Will be watching to see if someone comes up with a fix.

Yes, I'm hoping for that too. I have tried everything including the Microsoft Fixit tool for Windows Update which tells me there is a problem with Windows Update which it can't fix!!
