I have to do this every few months. I even have the bios update file saved on a thumbdrive for it.

My Aspire One has a firmware that seems to corrupt every so often. Basically when you turn the machine on, it just sits there with a black screen. The lights are on, and the fan runs quietly, but nothing every happens. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work.

The solution I found was to reinstall the bios firmware, and that fixes the issue. I have to do this every so often in order to use my machine.

The reason I came across this forum post is that I kinda forget how to do it after awhile. I have a USB drive with three files on it (Flash.Bat; Fla**bleep**.exe; Nav50.fd). Then I'm supposed to have the machine's power off, insert the thumb drive, hold "fn + esc" and then press power. Then release "fn + esc". Then it reinstalls the bios and all is well.

Its not working this time, maybe I'm not holding "fn + esc" long enough, or I'm doing something wrong.

What are the official instructions for doing this?

    Thanks!

My concern is that you should NOT be seeing this issue multiple times.

You have a hardware issue that needs to be corrected.

I do not have any instructions for flashing the BIOS as you delineated above.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

I know it shouldn't be happening, and I know this is a hardware issue. This machine is way out of warranty, and honestly it's not even worth the cost of a repair (which would probably just end up being a bios chip replacement). I have soldering skills, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to successfully re-solder a bios chip to a motherboard.

I just figured out what I was doing wrong. I had re-made the USB thumbdrive, but I had it formatted in FAT32 instead of FAT. I did the "esc + fn + power" thing with the thumb drive in the right side USB port. The fan whirls at full speed for about 10 minutes as it rewrites the BIOS and now I'm back up and working.

    Thanks for your reply though.
