Hello, I have a Acer Aspire 5742G. I am having some problems with my overheating machine. 1-2 months ago while I was watching a blu ray 1080p movie my laptop shut down and it was a bit hot. I restarted it and everything was ok. Yesterday I opened and cleaned the fan of my acer. Today while I was watching another bluray 1080p movie my laptop shutdown again but now this time I tried to boot it but after the Acer logo splash screen I got the message "Error Loading Operating System". Now after 20 minutes of the movie the temperature of my laptop's cpu and gpu is 75C+ buth maximum 82C.

I researched it, and you are the owner of one tough 2 1/2 year old machine. Your laptop was built for strength, not looks, and it achieved its goal.
The obvious question is "Did your fan die"? Unless you're a geek, you need to take it to a repair shop. The second solution is to purchase a cooling device (I bought mine here in Mexico for 150 pesos ($12 US). But if your fan has died and you use a cooler, you are only delaying your machine's early death.

now I am on a colling machine and the temperatures of cpu and gpu are about 55! The only thing that I am using now is my browser with 3 tabs! Plus my fan must be working cause I can listen to it..... So I am a bit confused....

Is it possible that the fan on your video card has failed?
