RL70 Boot problems

Hi everyone, am new to the forum so hopefully you can help with a little problem I'm having.

Bought an RL70 Nettop with Windows 8 preinstalled last Friday. Having also recently picked up a laptop with 8, I knew I didn't like it so planned to install Windows 7 on it as soon as possible.

After the laborious task of getting into the BIOS, I was able to to begin the process of wiping the hard drive and installing 7. Everything went fine, to the point I was beginning to reinstall the drivers into 7 after completing the setup.

During a reboot for the drivers, the computer suddenly flashed up the message 'Reboot and select proper boot device'. I reboot again, then the message flashes back up again, and again... I try and access the BIOS, the nettop starts to refuse that and jumping to the reboot message.

This evening I figured I'd reset the CMOS and this allowed me to get back into the BIOS, but despite trying all the different boot settings, the nettop still won't let me boot with my Windows disk. I then ,try with an Ubuntu iso on a memory stick and this pushes me to a GRUB command prompt, but again won't let me boot the iso.

The big difference is the the BIOS recognised the Ubuntu install on the memory stick, but can't see the Windows disc on my USB optical drive. I also try a Windows 7 trial on a USB stick... again nothing.

This leads me to where I am now, I'm guessing during the reinstall or driver install something on the kernel has become corrupted, but I suppose the question I'm asking is how can I get back to a starting point so I can install Windows again? Am prepared for bad news if it's coming but if it's a simple fix like swapping hard drives, your input would be great.

Re: RL70 Boot problems

Is there a setting to run your BIOS in Legacy mode, instead of UEFI?  I had to put my S3 notebook in legacy mode before it would boot from an iso file.  You could also try disabling secure boot to see if it will allow you to boot from an iso.
