How do I get HDMI back? It has disappeared from Control Panel/Sounds.

My Aspire 5542-1615 laptop had HDMI available as an option until recently. I need to get it back; the Acer online solution doesn't work, as my O/S dialogue boxes - Windows 7 - do not match those shown in the instructions. Does anyone know how to get HDMI back?
