The Windows 8 upgrade failled every time due to a hardware issue (the PC went back to ACER for a board and memory replacement).
The Windows 7 package got corupted during the upgrade and the backup on the hidden partition also failed due to hardware mismatch digital signing error.
I had to format C and install the standard Windows 8 Home Premium from a genuine Windows DVD, then download and install all the acer drivers to get it working correctly.
I could not find any where to get the software back that was originally provided by Acer.
I ran the Windows 8 Upgrade with the Acer assistant and it all went pretty smooth with a few driver updates.
Only thing now is the Acer remote control only works the volume, cursor, the power buton and the I dont know where to get the additional software back.
Non of the backups (hidden partition or the 4 DVDs I burnt) work on the PC since the repair done at ACER.

If you have Windows 8 on the unit I'm not sure that you are going to be able to just roll back to Windows 7 like that. Generally you can't load a lesser operating system over a newer one and have to format the drive. The Acer recovery discs you created should be designed to create a partition, format it, and load the Windows 7 operating system on to a raw drive. I would suggest loading Windows 7 back on, make sure all the hardware drivers are updated, then choosing the upgrade option with the Windows 8 disc that you have. That should alleviate any problems with software, what exactly was the hardware failure message it was giving you before?
