Hello,
I owe an Acer Aspire X1440 and I want to upgrade the GPU.
I bought a Nvidia GT710
https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/gt-710-1gb
When I install the new GPU, the boot screen freezes on Acer logo and I can not enter the BIOS. If I remove the card I can enter the BIOS using internal GPU but the only relevant option I could see to resolve this is "Onboard Graphic Controller - Enabled", which is greyed out and can not be changed to Disabled.
I searched online and most people experiencing this issue (on different computers) resolved it by either disabling Secure Boot (which I do not have in BIOS menu), changing something under Chipset (I don't have Chipset in BIOS menu) or updating BIOS version.
The lastest BIOS available for Aspire X1440 is
Date: 2012/07/02 Version: P01.A0L
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/4424?b=1
and this is the one on my PC so it's running with latest BIOS version.
Does anyone know which BIOS settings might need to be changed to allow booting using my new GPU? or a way to enable some advanded/hidden BIOS settings (I had this kind of issue on an HP desktop and a key combination would unlock/show some hidden settings in BIOS).
or would upgrading to BIOS of a different computer but with same motherboard be an option?
Motherboard reference is D1F-AD V:1.0A
ACER ASPIRE X1430 (Same motherboard but different CPU)

or
Acer Aspire XC100 - UEFI not for upgrades (Same motherboard, same CPU but UEFI)

Note that this graphic card is working fine. I tested it in a different desktop. I also tried a more powerful power supply and still experiencing freezing on Acer boot splash screen. Tried another video card, Inno3d GT630 and same issue, it won't go past the boot splash screen. I also tried clearing CMOS (battery removal and with jumper) but no luck.
Hope someone can help me with this.
Thanks,
John
