Disable a cracked touchscreen: no control of mouse aspire v5

Hi, I've cracked the touchscreen on my aspire v5 labtop and am getting phantom clicks that I would like to disable. The issue is that everything I try to do gets interrupted by the phantom clicks; otherwise it would be a simple matter to disable the drivers.

Does anybody have suggestions on how to circumvent this? Is there a non-interruptable way to temporarily disable all pointer functions so I can turn off the drivers? Alternately, is there a way i could deattach the laptop screen and disable the drivers using a different monitor? Or just a way to disconnect thr touch part of the screen hardware?

Thanks in advance; any suggestions help!

     TommyOh13,

We have an article that explains how to do so here, you might be able to boot into safe mode and disable it without it clicking all over.

Hi, Unfortunately safe mode did not fix the problem. I ended up manually detaching my labtop screen and using an external monitor to go back to a last known good where it was disabled. However, I cannot update my computer now without it reenabling the driver.

    TommyOh13,

If you detached and unhooked the display you should be able to enable the driver, it should not be clicking the screen. I am guessing that even using an external mouse it still phantom clicked all over?

No, once I detached the screen the phantom clicking stopped (It's directly linked with the broken touchscreen). I was then able to deactivate the driver. However, when my computer updates, it automatically reactivates the driver and I have to repeat the process (which is a real pain, considering I have to disect the entire computer to detach the screen).

I would like a way to permanently deactivate it such that it does not reactivate on upgrade.

    TommyOh13,

Unfortunately there is not really a permanent way to disable it, other than in the device manager, but that get re-enabled when certain things are done it seems.

    Alright, that is rather unfortunate.

Do you think it might work to remove the driver? I would just need to do so in a way that prevents windows from reinstalling it.

    TommyOh13,

You can try, but Windows will just reinstall it when it discovers it again probably. I'd recommend Googling a way to block it, but once you fix it you would have to undo what you did, which may be harder to do. Smiley LOL

If your touchscreen is cracked and you have no control due to phantom touches:

Best thing I found was connect your laptop to an external monitor.  Hit Winkey + P button at the same time, which will pull up the project screen command.  Choose the "second screen" only option.  You should now be able to use the mouse on the second screen.

Now hit Winkey+X to open device manager. Go to Human Interface Devces and choose HID Compliant Touch Screen. Choose "Driver" tab, and disable.  Don't uninstall the driver, because once you reboot your computer, it will just reinstall the driver, and you will have to do all the steps again.

This works for windows 8 and 10.   I realize I'm posting on an old thread, but I had alot of trouble finding a solution to this problem.

I have a V5-571P with a cracked digitizer. Tried EVERYTHING to get in to disable the touch-screen. Nothing worked, too much randomness to even log in to get to settings. Managed to get it to boot in safe mode and the touch-screen is still enabled so no joy there either. Basically it's bricked and was about to give up when I thought, maybe try spraying a liquid on the screen to fill the cracks. My thinking it would complete the circuit and stop the ramdom misfires. Guess what?? It worked!! I got it stable enough to navigate to the device manager and disabled the touch-screen. It al;so disabled the touchpad but was able to use an external USB mouse to control the PC. Have a new digitizer on order.

    Hi Everyone,

Disable Acer Aspire V5-571PG Touchscreen from hardware.

Thanks for your valueble inputs in the thread. I wonder if someone ever found a way to disable the touchscreen from hardware level. I mean not from the device manager (what if i am not able to find device manager in the OS i use ?)

please let me know if some serious techie can figure out a way to fo it. I noticed there are 3 ribbons coming out from the LCD lid (1 for the webcam) if we try some trick with one of the others it can be the way (who knows Smiley Happy

let me know what you people know. Thanks Smiley Happy

Hello, I have the same issue only I cannot even enter the computer as I cannot get past the login screen. I will try a safe boot mode but is there any bios or internal option to disable touch screen yet leave the screen active? Thanks.

WILL TRY IT ->> Is the digitizer just the touch part (glass at the front) and was that the fix to the cracked screen and touch problems?

I know that this post is ancient, but people are still having problems with their touch screen and "phantom touches." In some cases you may not have the ability to even log into the computer to disable the touchscreen driver. If this is your situation, you may find that the laptop has a separate cable plugged into the motherboard or daughterboard that controls the touch screen. Look for a cable with many fine wires attached to a plug and unplug it. This cable may not exist on some or many laptops, but I found this as a solution to an Asus laptop that I worked on recently.

Hi buddies. I've sorted this issue in a very easy way. Easier than anyone could realize. I've just connected an USB keyboard, closed the notebook, and voila, the touchscreen was disabled then I could log in, use the windows commands and disable the touchscreen. Yeah, it was quite easy, but until I get that, I've got crazy. I was so angry Thai I've almost broke my notebook. Lol
    See ya buddies.🙌
