Aspire E 15 E5-571-35LV RAM Problem

I tried adding a 4GB RAM stick in slot two and the computer did not recognize it.  I tried the new stick in slot one and it DID recognize it.  I tried the original 4GB stick in slot two and it did NOT recognize it.

Does this mean that the RAM 2 slot is damaged, or could there be some other explanation?  Can I just add a 8GB stick into slot one?

are both sticks of Ram exactly the same brand/Specs, as they must have the same specs to run correctly, since  your system does read each of the sticks correctly to function the ram itself is good but may have different specs and will not work together for dual channel.
