Aspire 1414WLMi BIOS

Hello all

I've been looking for weeks for an answer to this, but no luck.  So I'm hoping someone here will be able to help.

I have an old Aspire 1414WLMi notebook (like from 2005).  It was released with BIOS version 3A06, and I've upgraded that to 3A10.

When I do a serial numebr check on the Acer website it tells me this is an Aspire 1410, so it fits into that category.  The oldest BIOS version I find on the site is 3108, and the latest is 3314.

When I try to update the BIOS to either 3108 or 3314 (from Windows), I get an error saying that Insydeflash is not supported, and another error about IHISI something or other.  When I try to update it from DOS I get an error about a 10h process interrupt.

I tried updating it using the Fn+Esc method, but I just get a continuous stream of 3 beeps (one long, two short).

How do I get these BIOS updated?  (I want to install Windows 7 and it tells me my BIOS is not ACPI compliant and I should update them).  I have a feeling that there must've been a BIOS update some time back, somewhere between version 3A10 and 3108, which enabled the Insydeflash feature.  But I've had no luck finding it.

*Extra info: I've contacted Acer in South Africa and they tell me that the BIOS versions listed on the website (3108 - 3314) are the only versions released.  That can't be, since it's very clear that my BIOS is currently 3A10 which isn't on the list.  They haven't been much help.

I've upgraded the RAM to 1.25GB and it runs quite happily.  It's got the original Windows XP with SP3 on at the moment.  I've just done a system restore so it's back to factory.

Looking forward to hearing your input!

There are two versions of the Aspire 1410 Series.  The one with the 11.6" LCD is the newer system and what you appear to be looking at on the Drivers page.  BIOS for that system are 31xx versions.

The 15.4" LCD version of the system, which is the older one from circa 2005, has a BIOS series that is 3Axx.

The two BIOS are not cross-flashable and are intended for different systems.

Please understand that due to the age of the 15.4" LCD systems, we do not support Windows 7 on them.

We only released Windows XP drivers for that system.

That makes complete sense to me, thank you!  I had a feeling that was the case, but with the serial number check pointing me to the new 11.6" version it was a bit confusing.

Can you tell me what the latest BIOS version is for this system then?  Obviously since it's so old I can't find it on any official website...

You have the latest BIOS released for that system.

We only shipped and posted Windows XP drivers for the Aspire 1410 15.4" series.
