Recently, I updated my Aspire T180 desktop to Windows 8 [32-bit] Pro. I just discovered that the Texas Instruments ieee 1394 OHCI Compliant host controller will not start up error comment:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Windows Upgrade Offer page:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows-upgrade-offer

The Aspire T180 desktop is not listed as a supported unit.

We do not have updated drivers for Windows 8 on this system.

I am well aware that the Aspire T180 isn't listed as a supported unit with regards to a Windows 8 update, but do you not have  a legacy driver that is Windows 7 compliant that I could try to use in solving this problem. I have looked at the driver download page and there isn't a driver listed specifically for the ieee 1394 controller.

    Thanks, Don

PS Win8 upgrade advisor did indicate that this system is in fact upgradable. Checked this out prior to purchasing Win8, however there was no indication in said advisor that the ieee 1394 controller wasn't compatible. You will find others with a similar issue who have ASUS systems with the same driver issue on Microsoft Technet forums. Maybe PC buliders should get together and find a fix. unless of course ieee 1394 [firewire] isn't mandated as important or is obsolete.

The unit is not supported by Acer for Windows 7 or for Windows 8.

There are no forthcoming drivers for either operating system on this system.
