  • I edited my comment with another suggestion that's worth trying before you return it. I had this issue, I removed my ssd, then booted up and went through the steps, that loaded the ahci drivers so when I then reinstalled the ssd it was recognised by the laptop and booted up fine.
  • Trying to post again without the link - previous post went to moderation 10 minutes ago. I had the exact same problem. For others I found this solution, the whole explanation and the wonderful person who figured it out on is on the link. The problem is you don't have the ACHI drivers etc installed so you get the blue…
  • Ah - lots of people have had problems with Sata m.2 it should work but for some reason when I was doing this I didn't find a single success with sata, lots of success with NVME though which is what I used. Also have a look at the bottom post on here, I've been trying to paste the info but the post keeps going to moderation…
  • Thanks for all your help. This forum is one of the key reasons why I chose Acer. It's been very useful. My laptop is now really quiet. I really didn't think it was the HDD because I heard the resting clunk but I guess it was still spinning, my mistake.
  • Found the solution - it was on an older thread you posted on, except I'm doing the opposite. I bought a non-grounded power supply. Took ages, had to check for safety, find a reputable safe one. Turns out I didn't need it but at least I have one. Using HDDscan I worked out the HDD wasn't spinning down even though it sounded…
  • Upstairs is isolated from downstairs, it's on a new rcd and barely anything is connected to it. Didn't have time to try it last night. The wires in the kitchen are newer than those in the living room. So I have options to try. I'll let you know. Thanks
  • Took the dog for a walk, noise was there when I got back. I will later on tonight try upstairs for longer.
  • I've recently had upstairs rewired so I tried it there. Seemed to work. However downstairs is a bigger job and I'm going to do it when the whole space is renovated. So I tried a really good solid beast of an extension lead I have, it has a grounded light etc. And that seems to have worked. It's been 10mins and the white…
  • Thanks for that. I have uk plug but I'll try plugging it in to various points.
  • Sorry it's the laptop making the noise. I'm just wondering what the settings are for on battery that are different so I can replicate on ac. Thanks
  • FWIW I recently bought the Silicon Power nvme 512gb as it was £46 on prime day. Was going to go for a better known brand but couldn't say no at that price and specs. It's been fine. No issues. I didn't go for 1tb because Acer haven't tested for it and I've read posts with people having problems but I've also read it should…
  • The black space is where your hard drive goes but you need some parts - read this thread though it is for the swift but it should explain. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/555979/i-want-to-install-a-second-hard-drive-in-my-acer-swift-315-52-i-need-ffc-cable-and-hdd-bracketThe hard drive may need to be 7mm deep not…
  •  I had the exact same problem. For others I found this solution, the whole explanation and the wonderful person who figured it out on is on the link. The problem is you don't have the ACHI drivers etc installed so you get the blue screen. but what you need is:1. Run Command Prompt as Admin 2. Invoke a Safe Mode boot with…
