Switching to the Developer Channel on a Chromebook gives you access to experimental features, but it can also make your device unstable. If you want to switch back to the Stable or Beta channel, make sure the data for all users is backed up, then follow the steps below to disable the Developer Channel on your Chromebook.
Step 1: Open Chromebook Settings
- Click the time in the bottom-right corner.
- Select the Settings⚙icon
Step 2: Navigate to About ChromeOS
- Scroll down and click About ChromeOS in the left-hand menu.
- Click Additional details to expand more options.
Step 3: Change Your Update Channel
- Under the Channel section, find your current update channel.
- Click Change channel.
- Select Stable (or Beta if you prefer some early features but with more stability than Developer).
- Confirm your selection.
- Your Chromebook will start downloading the stable version of ChromeOS.
Step 4: Perform a Powerwash (If Required)
If you were on the Developer – Unstable channel, ChromeOS may require you to Powerwash (factory reset) your device. Here’s how:
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
- Click Powerwash and follow the on-screen instructions.
- After rebooting, sign in with your Google account and restore your settings.
