Why is my computer battery only charging to 80%?
If your Acer laptop only charges to 80%, do not worry—this is likely due to the “Optimized Battery Charging” feature.
What is Optimized Battery Charging?
Optimized Battery Charging limits your laptop’s charge to 80% to reduce battery wear and improve long-term health. This feature is particularly useful if you primarily use your laptop while it is plugged in or do not always need a full charge.
If you need a full charge for extended use away from a power source, you can temporarily disable this setting.
How to Manage Optimized Battery Charging in Acer Sense
You can use the AcerSense software to enable or disable Optimized Battery Charging on many Acer models.
Enable Optimized Battery Charging
- Open the AcerSense software by clicking Start > All Apps > AcerSense. You can also click the AcerSense icon on your desktop, or press the AcerSense key on your keyboard.
- Navigate to Personal Settings.
- Click on Battery & USB Charging.
- Toggle the switch for Optimized Battery Charging to the ON position. Your laptop will now limit charging to 80% to protect battery health.
Disable Optimized Battery Charging
- Open the Acer Sense software.
- Navigate to Personal Settings.
- Select Battery & USB Charging.
- Toggle the switch for Full Battery Charging to the ON position. Your laptop will now charge to 100%.
Note: If your computer does not have AcerSense, or there is no Optimized Battery Charging setting, your system may not support this feature.
