On Chromebook, you can create and work between multiple desktops. Multiple desktops allow for separation between work and personal tasks, resulting in better organization and increased productivity.
If you've created or used a virtual desktop on your Chromebook before:
- Locate and click on the Desk button towards the left side of the apps on your shelf
- On the interface that appears select the plus icon to create a new desktop
You can also access your virtual desktops with the Show Windows key on your keyboard.
When the Show Windows key is pressed, you'll see an overview of the current desktop you're on and any windows that are opened.
- Towards the top of the screen, click the Plus icon to create a new desktop
- Name the new desktop to your preference
- Press Enter on your keyboard
- Then select the new desktop to switch to it
When opening applications and switching between desktops, the applications will stay on the respective desktop that it was opened on.
To switch what desktop an application is opened on:
- Ensure the application you are wanting to move is open
- Press the Show Windows key on your keyboard
- Locate the application in the overview
- Click and drag the application window towards the top of the screen and drop it on the desktop you are wanting to move it to
To combine desktops:
- Ensure you are on one of the desktops you are wanting to combine
- Press the Show Windows key on your keyboard
- At the top of the overview locate the other desktop you are wanting to combine
- Hover over the desktop
- Select the combine desktop button
To close a desktop:
- At the top of the overview locate the desktop you are wanting to close
- Hover your mouse over the desktop
- Select the X in the right corner of the desktop preview
