Why is my smartphone not being detected through the front USB-C port?
You might encounter an issue where your system is unable to detect or recognize your smartphone through the front USB-C port. Charging your smartphone is not an issue, but additional devices are not been recognized, and you might see a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager.
Changing the USB Communications Capable setting from 0 to 1 resolves this issue and improves your device compatibility. To change this setting, you need to update the firmware of your USB-C computer chipset. For instructions on how to update the USB-C chipset on your computer, follow the steps below.
How to update the USB-C chipset firmware
- Go to the Acer Drivers and Manuals page.
- Enter your Serial number, SNID or Model number and select your model.
- Click on BIOS/Firmware.
- Locate the “TypeC PDFW_V003” firmware you want to install and click on Download on the right.
- Extract the files from the downloaded zip file.
- Locate and double-click on the ECS_IT8851_USBGen2x2_V003.exe installation file to run it.
- Click on Yes when the User Account Control prompt appears. Your Power Delivery (PD) firmware will now be updated automatically.
- Power down your system and then disconnect the power cord for a short period to complete the PD firmware update process.
- Connect the power cord and reboot your computer. The USB-C port of your computer should now recognize your smartphone again.
