How can I fix my Chromebox CXI5 that won't power on?
Your Chromebox CXI5 could be experiencing power-on issues after an automatic update from ChromeOS R110 to R118, with the power button displaying an amber-colored light. See the image below for reference.
During the ChromeOS update, the Moli H1 (Google Security Chip) had trouble verifying the EC RW firmware. This caused a communication timeout, leading to a hard reset. However, the reset did not provide sufficient power to boot up your system.
To get your Chromebox CXI5 to power on again, follow the instructions below.
How to fix a Chromebox CXI5 that will not power on
- Disconnect and reconnect the USB Type-C power cable. Your Chromebox CXI5 will continue to display the amber-colored power button light.
- Disconnect and then reconnect the USB Type-C power cable once more.
- Press the Power button.
- Your Chromebox CXI5 should now successfully boot up and the power button should light up green again.
Note: Once you have executed the instructions above, the issue is resolved and should not reoccur.
