What should I do if my Chromebook does not power on after being in hibernation overnight or longer with the lid closed?
Your Chromebook may not power on after being in hibernation overnight or longer if the lid of the device was closed. Google has released a Chrome OS update that will resolve this issue.
If you encounter this issue, you should perform an EC (embedded controller) reset and then update your Chrome OS to 112 or later to prevent it from happening again. Use the instructions below to perform an EC reset.
How to perform an Embedded Controller Reset
- Plug in your Chromebook.
- Press the Power + Refresh ⟳ key for 3 seconds until your Chromebook starts up again.
- Once your Chromebook is up and running, update your Operating System to version 112 or later. For instructions, refer to How to Update Your Chromebook Operating System.
