Fast Startup is a feature in Windows 11 that allows your computer to start up faster by saving the operating system state to a hibernation file instead of completely shutting down the system. This allows your computer to start quickly by resuming from the previous state. If this feature is enabled, your system will continue to use some battery power even though it appears your computer is off. You can disable fast startup to prevent the battery from draining using one of the methods below.
Method 1: Disable Fast Startup in Settings

- Click on System in the left menu, then click on Power & battery.
- Scroll down to the Related settings section and click on the Additional power settings option.
- Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on the Change settings that are currently unavailable link at the top of the page.
- Scroll down to the Shutdown settings section and uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Click on the Save changes button at the bottom of the page to apply the changes.
