How to Restart a Chromebook

You may want to restart your Chromebook if you are having problems with it or if it is performing slowly. You can reboot your device to clear your RAM, resolve any memory leaks, and improve performance. Use any of the methods below to restart your Chromebook.

How to use the Chromebook restart shortcut

Click on the Time in the lower right corner.
Click on the Power icon to shut down your Chromebook.
Press the Power button on your keyboard to restart your Chromebook.

How to use the Chromebook hard restart

Press and hold the Power button for a five seconds.
Select Shut down from the pop-up menu to turn off your Chromebook.
Press the Power button on your keyboard to restart your Chromebook.

How to do a soft restart using a Chrome web browser

Open your Chrome webbrowser.
Type chrome://restart in the address bar.
Press Enter to restart your Chromebook.
