How do I set an Acer Chromebook up for my child?
Your Acer Chromebook allows you to add supervision to your child's Google Account using Family Link to restrict access to websites, restrict private browsing and restrict the ability to grant permissions. You will need a Google Account and must be over the age of 18 and in the same country as your child to enable these permissions. Use the instructions below to setup Family Link to manage parental controls on your Chrome devices.
- First, download and install the Google Family Link app on your phone.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to setup the application and add your child's Google account that ends with @gmail.com.
- Go to your child's Chrome device, login with their Google account and select Settings ⚙.
- In the People setting, select Setup for the Parental Controls options.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to setup supervision on the child's account. Your child will need to give their consent during the setup process.
How to block or allow websites on your child's Chromebook
You can block specific websites so they are not viewable, or restrict entire domains to block all sites on a specific domain. For example, blocking the google domain would restrict pages from sites such as images.google.com and support.google.com. Use the instructions below to restrict websites on your child's Chromebook.
- Open the Family Link app.
- Select your child.
- Tap Manage settings > Google Chrome > Manage sites > Approved or Blocked.
- In the bottom right corner, tap Create +.
- Add a website or domain.
- Click the X in the top left to Close.
How to change website permissions for your child's Chromebook
You can restrict your child’s ability to grant permissions to websites they visit, including permission to use location, camera, and notifications. Use the instructions below to restrict website permissions.
- Open the Family Link app.
- Select your child.
- Tap Manage settings > Google Chrome > Chrome dashboard.
- Turn "Permissions for sites and apps" on or off.
How to See or delete your child’s Chrome history
You can view and delete your child's browsing history directly on their Chromebook.
- Click the Launcher icon ◯ and open the Chrome web browser on the Chromebook.
- In the top right, select More ⋮ and choose History. This page shows your child's recent Chrome history.
