Why is my notebook overheating?
Computers can become overheated when used for extended periods of time or when running processor intensive applications such as playing video games or watching streaming or local video. This is normal and should not affect the computer’s operation.
How to prevent a computer from overheating
To avoid excessive heat building up in the computer, you should always use it on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface. Using the computer on a blanket, pillow, or other cloth surface can block important heat vents. It is advised to use the computer in an environment no hotter than 95°F.
How to recognize possible overheating of your computer
If a computer becomes too warm, it can cause symptoms such as random reboots, system lock-ups, and random shutdowns. Continued excessive heat can cause permanent damage to system components.
How to clean the air vents to prevent your computer from overheating
Over time dust can build up in the computer’s air vents causing air and heat to not pass through them effectively. Using a small vacuum or a can of compressed air to clear the vents of dust on a regular basis can help resolve an overheating issue. Be sure to use compressed air according to the instructions on the can.
If the computer is still overheating after the vents are cleaned, please contact Acer support.
