How can I protect my system against Synaptics driver security vulnerabilities?
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with certain versions of Synaptics touchpad drivers that impacts all Synaptics OEM partners. A party would need administrative privileges in order to take advantage of the vulnerability. Neither Synaptics nor Acer has access to customer data as a result of this issue.
Impacted models and versions of the Synaptics 64bit drivers and impacted models are listed below. Acer has provided links for the Synaptics 64bit driver updates. The drivers can also be found on Acer.com support page. The driver update files are in ZIP format. Each zip file contains a setup.exe file for installing the driver. A restart of the computer may be required after installing the new Synaptics driver update.
Updated Windows 10 Synaptics 64bit drivers will be incorporated into future Microsoft Windows updates. Updated Windows 7 Synaptics 64bit drivers will need to be installed by the end user.
