Acer Aspire 5742 wireless on/off question

I have an Acer aspire 5742 laptop, and I don't know if this is a problem or just the way this laptop usually works, my 'wireless' automatically starts when the laptop boots up, now after it has fully booted I can not switch it off (fn + f3 buttons) I can switch it off during the boot up process by pressing the Fn + F3 buttons but not when it is up and fully running, the same applies, if I turn the wireless off during the boot up I can't turn it back on when its fully 'booted' (windows loaded) by pressing (tapping) the Fn + F3 buttons, the only way to start the wireless is switching the laptop off and restarting, this is a bit of a 'pain' if I think I am not going to use the 'net', so I switch the wireless off at the startup but then decide I want to browse to 'net' after a while, I have to 'restart' my laptop.....Is this usual for Acer laptops, or have I a problem, I have looked to see if there is a 'wireless' switch somewhere but can't find any

I am running Windows 7, 64bit

Any advice would be grateful.....Thank you

The Fn + F3 should definately work, either in or out of Windows.

Have you added or removed any software from the system?

Have you attempted to restore the system to factory defaults and see if Fn+F3 works in Windows?

Which is why I asked earlier what you had added to the system ... it's possible that some other software that is loading with Windows is interferring with the function keys.  Especially since it works outside of Windows.
