Aspire A317 to portable monitor PM1 compatibility (I can't get the dropdown for Laptops or Display)

I have an Aspire A317 and have just bought a PM1 as a second monitor.  Maybe I'm being daft, but I'd expect Acer-to-Acer set-up to be simple.

But:

The PM1 portable monitor connects by a Thunderbolt Type-C male cable and there is no such female port on the A317.

I've used a Type-C to USB connector and got the PM1 to work on my Samsung tablet, but if I use that connector on the A317 the PM1 is not detected.

When I do connect, sometimes the green Acer logo will show on the PM1, sometimes it won't.  (Which I assume is just the power, I've also tried connecting via the mains) After that, if I'm lucky, I get a 'no signal detected' message.

Grateful for ideas.  What am I doing wrong?

Well, it looks like I've bought myself a dud deal.... and you can only connect the PM1 to a Type-C port.  That was an expensive lesson learnt... that's rather ruined my opinion of Acer :-(

Which Aspire model do you have? It should be something like A317-xxx-xxxx.

Yeah, the Aspire A317-51G doesn't have USB-C video, so wouldn't work with that monitor.
