Acer Aspire S7-391-9413 keeps shutting down randomly while under battery power

The shutdowns are random and do not appear to be related to overheating as no undue amount of heat was noted.

The battery was more than sufficiently charged, and the CPU was not under any kind of heavy load....no gaming etc.

It does not happen when under AC power but only while under battery power.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

I have exactly the same problem as described by 'blewster'. My S7-391-73514G25aws shuts down randomly when on battery power. (this does not appear on AC power)

Acer S7 laptop is brand new and it's also not related to overheating. It happended at various battery levels (e.g. at 85%, just now at 90%). Quite annoying. Has Acer had more related complaints about this and how can it be fixed?

After email contact with Acer support and a BIOS update, problem not yet solved and Acer S7 laptop has to go in for technical repair.

It's already bad enough to loose time with emails and phone calls and less productivity in the use of my new Acer laptop, now I got the intstructions from Acer Switzerland to send in my laptop for repair and pay for the freight charges myself! May I remind Acer that a customer is not responsible for a quality issue and should not incur extra costs on repair under warranty!!

Same problem here. Ultrabook was sent to the repair centre and came back in about 10 days with a report telling me that they couldn't replicate the problem when they tested it. However I could replicate the problem as soon as I tried to run it under battery power. I asked another repair request. If it doesn't get resolved after the second repair adventure, I'll be using my legal rights as a customer, who is suffering from a technical problem in an ultrabook which is almost 1.5 grand!

Same problem here. May be a BIOSupdate can help to resolve the issue (I use the latest BIOS 2.09). It is an annoying problem.

Mine does the same thing, but even with ac power on it sometimes it doesnt occur for weeks, and sometimes  several times a day. I hope Acer will be able to solve this issue.

Same problem here. Was asked to send in to service centre. But I don't think it is shut down actually. It is more like power off by force, feeling like the battery was removed in the midst of using S7. Another problem with mine is there are time that the S7 (on battery) cannot be switch on at all (this won't happen while on power cord). Anyone else have the same?

Yep, same issues here among others. I sent it back about 7 weeks ago because

the screen brightness is very uneven for a £1250 product

the keyboard keys weren't clicking properly

there was flex in the board

no clearance between the palm rest and the screen so if there is a breadcrumb on the palm rest it will scratch the screen or indent the screen (I have two scratches on my screen from bloody crumbs)

and the battery issue that you are all having.

They changed the keyboard and said everything else was fine which is rubbish and now my S7 wont even stay on (when running on battery power) for more than 4 seconds without switching itself off. It is extremely frustrating and I cannot trust it to do work on because it may decide to switch itself off at anytime. To add insult to injury, one of the screws was loose when it came back.

Now, after an annoyed email late at night when I’d had enough and a week of emailing back and forth the S7 is getting picked up on Monday. I expected Acer to replace the Laptop and send me a new one when it was last in and not just fix one of the issues. I just want a laptop I can trust from a company that doesn’t take the piss.

I hope Acer fix the way they handle premium customers  because at the moment I feel like it was a waste of money and I should have got another ultrabook from someone else for less.

I’ll let you guys know when/if mine comes back. Has anyone had this issue fixed?

I am considering trying to get a refund because this is just unacceptable. We spent quite a bit for something that should be reliable and I can't even use it as it should be. I talked with a tech and they told me to send it in which could take up to 2 weeks to get back, and from what I've read this hasn't fixed the problem.

I agree. If it comes back and still not working properly I will demand a refund as they did not deliver what was promised, a laptop that works and I might just get a macBook Pro but tipex out the apple logo.

Have you sent yours in yet?

Nope, I can't afford to lose my computer for 2 weeks I am in grad school. I have to wait until I have a break before I can send it in....

Similar thing for me, i have to shift everything off it and remove all security and server details off it just in case it falls into the wrong hands.

Acer is showing off an updated S7.

I hope they are good to their premium customers and replaced our obviously faulty S7s with the updated ones as they are releasing this less than a year after the first one was released suggesting that they knew there were flaws in their product.

Any solutions on this?  I have the same problem.  It happened after a windows update.  Seems to only happen when on battery too.

did you end up sending in the ultrabook? did it work? Mine is starting to get worse. It doesn't even stay on for like a mintute without the plug in now...

I have the same problem with my S7. The battery is fully charged, yet sometimes it will not turn on/stay on unless the A/C adapter is connected. A laptop that is not able to run on battery is unacceptable.

Has anybody who has sent their S7 to Acer for repair of this issue received it back from Acer with this serious defect properly repaired? If Acer is failing to address this problem, then perhaps we need to consider some form of collective action. Open to suggestions.

So after long emails with acer and them just saying I need to ship my computer in (at my expense) I just did a system recovery and so far it has been working.... So it may be an option to try.

EDIT: the battery only works sometimes. And now I have ANOTHER problem, everytime I try and shutdown it won't do it and then when I try to do something else it just freezes... I am so glad I spend all this money on a laptop that has all these problems.

My laptop was collected on monday and its on its way back to me. I called them to see what the problem actually was and they said that it was a setting which has been corrected. I asked what kind of setting was it and that i didnt know of a setting to "enable intermittent shutdown". I disagreed that this was a setting issue but will let you know if its fixed.
