I recently got the 2020 nitro 5 AN515/55 (i5-10300h) and want to add another 8gb ram module. Before buying the ram module,
I wanted to check what is the current ram speed. When i check from cmd with 'wmic memorychip get speed', it says is 3200mhz.
When i check from task manager, it says 2933mhz. Does anyone know why i get two different values?

Neither chipset or the board are managing the memory speed, the CPU has the memory controller buld in! Your CPU supports 2933mhz so even if you put 100000mhz modules they will still run at 2933 mhz. You can increase the speed thou with overclock which for laptop is not recommended. The memory can differ across the models of the product line as seen historically, so you better check with CPU-Z the specs and get the same one like yours.

The memory is probably the same across all the units they're selling at the lower price ranges (and probably higher tier too). It's a Micron MTA8ATF1G64HZ-3G2J1 and is a JDEC 3200 CL22. Just bought a Crucial memory stick (a Micron owned company) and it's actually the exact same stick down to the model (only difference being serial number and the sticker put on it). That is the CT8G4SFS832A, which can be had for around $40 for an 8GB stick on most sites.

As for why it's only reading at 2933mhz, I'm guessing because the Intel chipset/board can only do 2933 without XMP overclocking, which seems to be locked down.

Great thread. Saved me a lot of time now that I found it!

I was also puzzled why my brand new AN517-52-59RD was showing memory timing of 21-21-21-47 at a speed of 1463.4 MHz rather than the 22-22-22-52 at 1600MHz the module should support.

I get the same results checking with CPU-Z and HWiNFO which are listing the acer supplied memory as p/n# 8ATF1G64HZ-3G2J1 Micron Tech 8GB 1600.0 MHz (DDR4-3200 / PC4-25600)

I haven't opened up the case yet to look at the actual module as the machine is less than a week old.

I upgraded the BIOS to FH5VM version 1.03 which was the latest update from the acer support site.

Here is the i10 cpu spec sheet page 17 thanks to batmalin

Theoretical maximum memory bandwidth of: 45.8 GB/s in dual-channel mode assuming 2933 MT/s

So I guess the timing of 21-21-21-47 is normal for the model of laptop? I also see 2933 MHz listed in task manager.

Get CPUz and check it with that in SPD section of all the RAM and specs that you have, its a quick and simple way to check all OEM specs and what you have in your system.

If you want to get detailed info on the stick you have installed, you should use a specialized app capable of showing you more than just a few things @robgc. The free version of Thaiphoon Burner is all you need to see every profile and the timings of the memory (unless it was soldered directly to the motherboard that is).

Perhaps you find this thread about memory upgrades useful too, it goes over some things to take into account when upgrading: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/608352/guide-how-to-find-out-if-you-can-upgrade-the-ram-and-which-one-you-need

My advice for people who has more than one slot for RAM though: ditch whatever you have (sell it) and buy a matched pair instead for the memory speed intended for your processor. Less hassle and headaches.

May I know what is the brand of your stock ram?

Hi guys. I have the old model Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-52-78AS). Does it support 2933mhz ram?

    It's a SK Hynix. What is weird, is that it's a DDR4-3200MHz module. Here's a screenshot

according to the follow link :"https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007393/processors.html" ,
my i5-10300h, does support ddr4-3200mhz ram. Could it be, that the motherboards's limit is 2933mhz?
