Hi. I have downloaded the sd card reader driver for my acer aspire 5750z-4835 from here. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/support-product/3681;-;
Unfortunately this driver keeps my hard drive running all the time. Normally this light stays off and I have verified this. As soon as I install it, the hard drive takes off and doesn't stop. I have tried installing just the driver, without the last two options, and vice cersa, but the problem still persists. So I have to just uninstall this but then don't have an sd card reader.  I don't see an option to post a screenshot so I can't do that right now. Is there an update to this driver as I just can't use my card reader? The laptop did come with windows 7 home pro, but I have updated to windows 10 pro since that came out. Also, windows hello can't find my camera even though if I open the camera app it works just fine. So I can't set windows hello either.

    The system is giving me problems when i try to update and add a screenshot. So I'll try it here.
    Please note that I have updated my original hard drive to an ssd. So this is what I have been using now.

    Let's see... for the card reader one thing you could try is what happens with different driver versions. I'm assuming the ones Windows Update provides are not to your liking right? If you haven't tried those yet it'd be my first stop, just uninstalling any previous version of the driver and let Windows search for them.

    Otherwise you need to know which card reader your laptop has:
    - Double click the card reader entry in the Device Manager (there may be several), go to the Details tab.
    - Select the Hardware Ids property and note down the vendor and device IDs (VID & PID). Searching Google for those can lead you to different drivers, it'd be trial and error, but because we're looking for the exact ones of your card drivers ought to be compatible. If you post them here we could also help you locate some.
    - Write down the ones you have already tried, in case you forget.

    As for the webcam, you could also search for updated / different drivers, but I wonder if the webcam was Windows Hello compatible to begin with; because you said the laptop came with Windows 7 preinstalled and I don't think Windows Hello existed that far back. Not every camera is compatible, you need some sensor around it (at the very least some IR to get a sense of depth). It's easy to know though, laptops with Windows Hello compatible cameras usually have several discernible holes, like these:

    Thanks for the help. Windows update doesn't find anything. Meaning the sd card reader doesn't work. It works with the drivers from the acer site, but then the hard drive lights up solid so there's something wrong with that install or driver I'm not sure. Hence the reason I'm trying to find an updated driver as you have suggested. Here's what both of these missing drivers are. And you are correct. I didn't read that about the sensors on the camera until after I fought trying to get that to work. Mine is older so it doesn't have any sensors.

    Yeah... the Windows Update Catalog doesn't contain drivers for that card reader.

    I found some provided for another Acer model, they seem to be a newer than the ones available at the 5750Z support page. Give them a try and hope for the best! (they're still dated from 2013, many things changed since then but I couldn't find anything newer).

    Funny you mentioned that one. I just went ahead an tried this one which I think it's the same one you found. I used the 64 bit from this post here. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/255532/base-system-device-driver-missing

    It looks like it works just like the first one I tried. The led seems to be off, still on and of a times but looks more normal than a steady lit hard drive. That's the reason I figure I try it, it was 2013 instead of 2012. It did crash my system as soon as I tried an sd card. I just let it go and it restarted twice. Once I got to the option to restart, I just did a restart for a third time and I'm back on the computer. I'll post the pictures. Thanks for your help. I think I'll leave it alone and see how it fairs. I have been using my cameras a bit more and this built-in reader is more convenient than the usb reader.

    Here's a picture of this now. I guess I got everything I can get out of this laptop. The ssd is a big difference so at least now I can keep using it until it dies. I do take care of it and fix what breaks, but it's hard trying to find the drivers for things like this once they get older, even though it works fine.

    I included the one for the SD card one because it was newer as well, although Windows usually has drivers for those. Did you also install it? Just in case, the inbox driver may be enough for that or the other way around, maybe the inbox one is the one that crashes.

    It's complicated to find updated drivers for older machines, but if taken care of they're still quite capable.

    Yes, I went ahead and did the install instead of just trying to update the driver. If nothing keeps crashing I'll leave it alone. My phone was having a hard time connecting right now too, but things finally seem to be working. I have a new phone in the mail somewhere but the covind19 has said no to everything in the mail. Thanks again and stay safe. This virus is no joke.

  • I generally don't recommend this program. However, have you checked if iobit's driverbooster program finds the correct driver?
