Hi, my laptop has this issue where my battery and charger runs just fine, until my charger get's unplugged. Then my laptop won't detect my charger unless I do a battery reset. So basically, if my charger get's unplugged, I have to do a battery reset for my laptop to recognize it again.

    1. Run the Power troubleshooter

    This helps to find and fix issues with your computer’s power settings. To do this:

    • In the control panel search box, type Troubleshooter
    • Click Troubleshooting

    • Click Power and then click Next

    2. Perform a power cycle on your laptop

    • Unplug all external devices from the laptop.
    • Take out the battery.
    • Press the power button of the laptop for about 10-15 seconds.
    • Insert the battery and restart the computer.
    • Connect the AC adapter and check if your machine can detect the battery again.

    In the particular case that your laptop’s battery won’t charge at all, you can follow the steps in this useful guide to get past the problem.

    3. Update your BIOS

    If you get the ‘No battery is detected’ alert on your computer, there may be a problem with the chipset board, so you may have to check and install the latest available BIOS update and chipset drivers for your device.

    Note: When you’re updating the BIOS, ensure the battery is present and your AC adapter is plugged in.

    • Open a web browser and go to your device manufacturer’s website
    • Browse for your device on the website
    • Once you find the correct one, go to the BIOS category, and download the BIOS update file then save to the desktop
    • Double click on it and follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation
    • A reboot for your system will be done and the BIOS will be updated

    If the problem persists, then most probably the issue might with the hardware. In which case, contact your computer’s manufacturer.




    4. Check the battery and ACPI settings

    It could be that your battery is aging, and may not show up in the BIOS. But, check ACPI settings first to see if the battery shows there. To do this:

    • Right click Start and select Device Manager
    • Click Batteries to expand the category

    • Click ACPI to check the settings as the battery can enable or disable from there
    • Check your BIOS to see if the battery shows up there. If If the battery is not being detected in the BIOS then the problem is either with the battery itself or the battery bay/motherboard on the

    Note: If you have access to another battery, try it in your computer and see if your computer is the problem, or the battery. Try your battery in a different computer also to see if it’ll be detected or not.

    If you encounter the ACPI_DRIVER_INTERNAL error on Windows 10, fix it easily by following the steps in this complete guide.




    5. Do a battery driver reset

    • Right click Start and select Device Manager

    • Right click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant control method battery and select Uninstall

    • Click Action tab and select Scan for hardware changes

    • Shut the computer down
    • Disconnect the A/C power supply
    • Insert the battery.
    • Insert the A/C power supply and start the computer.

    I have tried all these steps, but no luck. I've also noticed that when I hibernate my laptop, it will stop recognizing that my charger is plugged in. My battery is still running as normal, but now it isn't charging. The orange light is also blinking. I had to do a battery reset in order for my laptop to recognize the charger.

    I had the same issue mentioned above with my battery not charging on my AN715-51-796C laptop. I sent mine in for repair but Acer couldn't not replicate the issue. They gave me a free Chicony power adapter. My laptop seemed to be working fine with the new adapter until a month later I started having the same issue again. I called Acer again but they couldn't provide any new help other than to send me another power adapter. I decided to perform a very general Google search on "laptop battery not charging" and found a CNET article titled: "How to fix a Windows 10 laptop that's plugged in but isn't charging". The article provides straightforward instructions on how to resolve the issues. Listed below is the link, with the instructions outlined. So far, the fix is working for me. Hopefully it will help others having this same issue. 


    • Open the Device Manager by searching for it or right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
    • Click Batteries on the list to expand it and you should see two items: Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
    • Right-click ON EACH ITEM (BOTH) and choose Uninstall device. Yes, you are uninstalling your laptop's battery drivers, but don't worry because they will automatically be reinstalled when you restart your laptop.
    • Shut down your laptop.
    • Unplug the power cable from your laptop.
    • If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it. My laptop does not have a removable battery. I tried skipping this step but it didn't work, so I removed the bottom panel of my laptop and then removed the battery by disconnecting it from the motherboard.
    • Put the battery back in if you removed it.
    • Plug in your laptop.
    • Power on your laptop.
    • Click the battery icon in the system tray and you should see that your laptop is plugged in and charging.

    Unfortunately, this didn't solve my issue, I'm only able to get my laptop to charge again, because there is a reset button at the bottom of my laptop. So minus the uninstalling of the battery drivers, I basically have to reset my battery, every single time my laptop charger gets unplugged. Otherwise, my laptop will never recognize the charger.

    I have the same issue guys. but my laptop wont turn on now. battery reset not working. need help, im doing my thesis and i cant return it due to quarantine in NCR. help pleaseee. my laptop seems dead

    Bought ACER NITRO 5 just last week! Several time when plugged in, not charging! Solution given aren't really solution! Should I do it everytime this happens??? WASTE OF MONEY! This shouldn't approved to be in the market!!!!

    I've always skimped on my laptop purchases - 3, 4, or 5 hundred dollars, etc. However, I really need to do some video editing, and my current laptop can't quite handle it. So I spent 850 dollars on a new ACER Nitro 5! I was so happy about my purchase - then it showed up on my doorstep... I opened it... connected it... it wouldn't CHARGE or START.
    Don't patronize me with questions about whether or not the AC adapter was connected properly (it was), or if the outlet was working (works fine, although I tried a few different ones just to be sure). The amber charge light doesn't blink, NO lights blink, and it won't start. It's DOA.
    To be clear, this was the MOST I HAD EVER SPENT on a laptop - if I had been impressed, I'd have been a loyal ACER customer for years, and since I'm finally making better money, I would have spent thousands of potential dollars on ACER laptops... if I wasn't treated like garbage. Instead, that's what I was given, for about 850 dollars, garbage. I will return it, get my money back and NEVER buy an ACER laptop again - I will make sure that my laptop purchasing friends are kept abreast of how this goes.
    Maybe don't sell a product that doesn't charge? That doesn't start? WHERE IS THE QUALITY CONTROL??? Shouldn't it be verified to start BEFORE it leaves the factory?
    So no, I won't be able to edit those videos on time, or play a modern video game in my downtime. I will print out labels, go to the post office (where the service is actually quite nice), and stress about getting my money back.
    I have learned from this though - Don't buy an ACER, under any circumstances.

    This happened to me until I made the power adapter snap in a second time. It went further then what I had expected ,

    I'm not being patronising when I say. Can you push further on the adapter to see if you get a second click? Mine took a lot of force the first time.
