Flickering / Loss of detail with movement on CG437K

In any game with even moderately dark areas there is a weird flickering/color shift anytime movement occurs.

On the UFOTest the background stars don't show up properly on the monitor:
(Here is a gif with snipping tool and just manually moving it to clearly show what I mean. I also show on a 2nd monitor where this doesn't occur):
https://imgur.com/a/Z6vqFK6 -- Just pause the video after I star moving it and you can clearly see the loss of some of the stars.

You can also see the example clearly here in a FFXIV gif:
https://imgur.com/a/c9oejCb (look at the overhang of the house. When movement occurs the white outlines disappear).

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried enabling and disabling adaptive sync, all overdrive settings, and most of the options I can find in the menu.

More highlights to see if anyone else has this since it may be difficult to tell from the video

wish I could contribute to helping. But I just wanted to chime in that i noticed the same behavior with mine too. i notice it in Breakpoint a lot.

although I have noticed you can make it stop if you increase brightness...But then all of the black colors just look plain bad

    Hello there,
got the monitor on monday, I have two major issues with it: black uniformity & ugly HDR1000-picture

    black uniformity:
    Mode: SDR, Standard(Brightness: 70, Contrast: 50, BlackBoost: 5)

black picture, LED-strips on backside of Monitor at max brightness, dark room
    real-life look:
    https://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/attachments/img_0575-jpg.484093/

completely dark room(picture of course overexposed):

can anybody else owning the CG437 confirm that, or have I received a bad sample?

unfortunately the 14-Diming-Zones only work when HDR is enabled.

HDR400 on my old monitor (Acer Nitro XV273KP, 4k 120HZ, IPS)looks better than HDR 1000 on my Predator CG437, so I do not like to use HDR on the Predator CG437:

    Acer Nitro XV273KP:

    Acer Predator CG437KP:

And yes, I activated HDR in Win10, and also in the Monitor OSD.

Additionally I made some Videos about the local dimming:

can u guys confirm that HDR looks washed out on the CG437KP?

About the loss off detail issue/ghosting:
I made some videos on youtube:
When gaming, compared to the Acer Nitro XV273KP the ghosting is worse on the CG437 (had both monitors side by side duplicated)

Everything you just posted is the reason i sent this thing back..I'll eat the $35 in shipping to rid myself of the $1500.00 i spent on this monitor. I had a Vizio TV back in 2010 that looked better than this. And yes,HDR looked very bad and washed out for me as well. I even convinced myself to leave it on SDR because the colors were ok. Then i started to see flicker and the same stuff the OP mentioned...I was done at that point. Packed it up. printed a return label and it's gone. Good Luck to y'all. It's not worth the time or headache. This was my 1st Acer purchase

I ended up here after googling cg437k "flickering." I received my monitor on Friday (2 days ago) and have noticed ghosting and screen flickering. In games like Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 the screen lightly flickers on both sides even when no movement. Very annoying. The ghosting is also a concern. I've been using a 1080Ti and noticed it on PC Jedi Fallen Order, but I've also seen some weird ghosting effects when I played Blackout on PS4 yesterday.  I've messed with all the settings and still no success. I want to like this monitor but it may have to go back. I can't take the flickering during games.

Now I tried everything. Software: installed Latest Nvidia Driver; reinstalled Windows 10 recommended Nvidia Driver, installed Acer-Monitor-Driver, Installed latest Windows10 Update; Hardware: new, Vesa-certified DP8K60-cable. Flickering-Issue still not fixed!!! So seems like this Monitor can't do 4K120-Freesync without issues.

Are you going to RMA it? Or return it?

    Hey Guys,

i have some Updates for you. I got my CG437k at christmas and registered the flickering issue on the right side on the next day. First i thought it is an issue of a specific game, because i do not register problems on other games. At least a few days ago, i changed the wallpaper and i used the xbox (beta) app more often. So, see the result: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AhuJeM7w_2bXm55wU01E0jYGDFqJhg?e=kTTd6G
Yesterday i tryed out everything, cable change, port change, software (driver, fixes and so on), but nothing changed. So i decided to contact acer, because i want to hear their opinion.
The answer was clear: It IS a hardware problem, and i have to RMA it.

So, the monitor would be picked up on tuesday.

When the monitor is back, i will tell you more.

Yes, return. Don't get me wrong, this monitor is awesome because 4K 120HZ and 43inch. But I can't accept the sporadic flickering(which also sporadically appears ingame) when paying 1500€. Maybe I just got a bad sample. When connecting my RTX2080TI to my old Monitor (Acer NItro XV273) I do not have any flickering.
Also, HDR looks better on my old Monitor(which is !HDR400!). On the CG437KP it looks very washed-out

So I just made an account on this forum just to make this post:

I'm not having any of the issues some of you are posting with mine.  My HDR looks gorgeous, no flickering, etc.  As we all know people without issues typically aren't the ones flocking to message boards to post about being happy with a purchase, but hey, here i am.

I would say it's a bad luck situation, and try an RMA.  If they have quality control issues with this model that's another issue, but I have no complaints over here.

Hi all, I just joined this forum after having some of the issues with my new CG437K that have been described here. I also have the flickering on the  right side of the screen in certain games at 120hz, but if I add another DP cable and select 144hz this disappears. I can still get about 50fps as I am running an overclocked 2080ti, but I appreciate this is no use to the people without this level of hardware. My monitor is going back to the supplier for another reason entirely. To run at 144hz you need to disable auto signal search and set the output to DP 1. I was aware of this and set the monitor accordingly, but it does not reliably lock onto DP 1 at start up. I have tried starting the PC first and then the monitor, but this only works about 30% of the time. If the monitor does not lock on it goes into standby and needs to be turned off. it normally finds the signal on restart, but clearly this is not right.  In all the years I have been involved with PC's I have never had this issue before. My old Asus ROG Swift 34 inch 21:9 4K never did this and I am just glad that I didn't sell it yet.

I have been poking around on the Acer web site this morning and downloaded the manual for the CG437K. I noted that on mode 14 which is dual DP cables at 144hz, G sync is disabled as not required.

I suppose this explains why you don't get the flickering, since no graphics card on the market at the moment could render 144 frames per second at 4K so there is no screen tearing happening.

I suspect the flickering is an out of range issue at 120hz, which is a hardware fault. Putting G sync on does not seem to help.

I also found out how to set the power saving settings and as soon as I enabled these the monitor went into low power mode and then standby after about 30 seconds, which kinda confirms what I thought was the issue with non detection of the active DP output.

It's going back to the vendor, but I am trying to decide whether to RMA or just ask for a refund.

Have exact same issues as described above.  Send mine for repairs.  Hopefully Acer can address those issues.

    Same Issues.
    RMA'd
    Same issues.
Issues only seemed to occur with PC. I tried Gsync off and it actually got better. But then screen tearing became an issue.
PS4 looked beautiful on it with no flickering.
But I am a PC player 90% of the time so going to return it.
I am curious thou if AMD based GPUs get these issues? or Is it to do with G sync and AMD free sync compatibility issues.
