Hi,

I have Swift 3 SF315-52G and the problem that bothers me is that I can't disable a screen backlight. When I press Fn + F6, I see a super fast blink (less than half of a second) and nothing more: backlight still works.
I tried that both under Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 18.04), but it doesn't work either way.

Is that a hardware issue, should I return/replace my laptop?

Thank you!

I never used that feature, but just tried it on my swift 3 (ryzen 7) and it works fine.

    Hi Diezel,
Are you referring to keyboard back light. If yes, then you can use hotkeys FN+F9 keys  to toggle the keyboard backlight on/off. If you turn it on, the backlight  comes on and after about 30 seconds of non-use the keyboard light  turns off. Pressing any key should bring the light back on.

    Hi Kamalika!

I'm referring to screen backlight. When I press Fn + F6, my screen must be turned off, however, I can't do that (have described what I see in my first message).

Do you know is that a hardware bug, or some software issues?

    Thank you
  • Did you check if the f6 key is loose or has poor contact? What may be happening is that when you release the f6 key, it is unduly pressed!

Have tried what you said without any result.

I'll attach two videos just to make it clear:

So to me it looks like a hardware issue.
What would you say? Should I return the laptop or there is still something to do?

    Thanks!

    Hi diezel,
Before checking with the hardware support team, please check with the Fn and other F key combinations are working Fine. Also as egydiocoelho mentioned make sure that the F6 key is not loose or not stuck.
    Perform BIOS defaults  ones.
    Switch off computer.
Turn on computer and keep tapping F2. Then press F9 one time and hit Enter.
Press F10 one time and hit enter.
Computer after restarts check if the Fn+F6 works.
If not contact acer support at

  • OK! Try this:
    a) Disable the fast start up in the power options and then turn off the notebook:

Press the battery reset button for five seconds and then leave the notebook off for five minutes and test the notebook:

    b) update the intel hd 620 and nvidia mx150 drivers if your notebook has the nvidia card! We recommend enabling system protection:

egydiocoelho, have tried all these steps, but have no result. The feature still works the same way.
Looks like it's a hardware (or ACPI software) issue. Will return my laptop back to the shop.

Big thanks to all participants of this discussion:

Here is the solution: you have to set “Sleep” for Power button or Sleep button in Power management. And Voila! Fn+F6 (and even Fn+F4 :-) works again ! :-) Enjoy!

Thank you! For some reason, after I got a new windows update (which, I think, changed something in BIOS), it started working for both OSes (Linux and Win)!
I'm not sure what happened, but now it works as expected.

The funny thing is that how I accidentally got it working before the update: I turned off touchpad by Fn+F7, and then I was able to turn off the backlight!
So basically, the backlight on/off function didn't work until I turned off the touchpad. But after the update it started working as expected. A pure bug!
