Hi.

I have a Predator 500 model nr PH517-51-93WV, today I upgraded win 10 from 1803 to 1903 (i think it was 1903, but not sure), when the windows upgrade was done, and it wanted to restart,  i restarted the computer, right after it said "important system upgrade" under the predator logo screen, and after it had shut itself off, it was dead, no matter how long I leave it on.

Anyone with an idea to get it back to life?

Ok, and how would you do that, when the computer is bricked? It doesn´t even show the predator logo on startup...
  • Can you tell if windows update has updated the firmware driver in conjunction with other updates? Also, have you tried resetting the lithium battery? Have you checked if the image is displayed on an external monitor?

Brille78 Im pretty sure the problem was probably windows updated the bios via windows updates and didnt flashed it properly on reboot by bricking it in my personal view bios updates should never had been taken by microsoft windows updates there are so many machines bricked because of this issue, this is one of the main reasons why i will not move from 1809 and will never enable windows updates again  probably only a bios recovery flash could fix it

The bios should always be updated manually by the user (at his own risk) not without his consent as Ms does now

Probably your only flash recovery option would be this method:

Brille78 Also was there any special reason for you to had updated to 1903 were you having issues if not i dont see the need to update anything if everything is working fine anyway its just an advice anyone should interpreter it as they wish

I agree a 100% that BIOS should NEVER be updated by MS, it should only be updated by a user with a USB stick and uefi, and yes it appears it was windows that updated my bios (i got a green bar under the predator logo on startup saying "wait while an important update is installed" (or something similar), i hae tried the bios bat reset, and i cant use my USB ports (not even a external keyboard lights up), and that makes the recovery bios procedure pretty hard....

Ps support for 1803 is soon stopping, that´s why i upgraded to 1903, had i known it would auto upgrade my bios, i would ever have installed it.

Brille78 well if you cant recover/flash the bios yourself you will have to send it to acer to get it fixed if still on warranty if out of warranty they would probably charge you for it because you are completely stuck now without a working bios theres nothing you can do

I did update my BIOS through Device Manager once but that occured on the same Windows 10 build. I think your newer BIOS was meant for some compatibility, like everyone says to keep BIOS updated before installing new builds. Still, did you upgrade using Windows Update?
Trying to do my best here - Your happy Predator owner =)!
  • @Brille78If you still have a green bar, it means that windows update has updated the uefi firmware through the firmware driver! Also, does the green uefi-bios update bar still appear even after the notebook is restarted?
