Hi,
I have just got an acer predator 17X (recertified), it works flawlessly, a bit hot but i think its just a paste issue, no big deal.
The laptop came with a toshiba drive and a 1 TB HGST drive, and they were both detected
I bought a samsung evo 970 nvme drive, tried to fit it in the 3rd slot and it fit with a bit of force but it didn't show up on the bios.
then i put the samsung drive in place of the toshiba drive(1st slot which is the lowest slot) and put the toshiba drive in the 3rd slot.
after this point,
no matter where i put any of the two drives, they are never detected by my bios,
what is happening?!!

Abob what its the full model number and also are the nvme drive you are trying to install might not be supported and might conflict with the other drives detection bare in mind that the m.2 ports might not support nvme in this case you can only use sata drives but without the full model number i have no way to find out the specs of the m.2 slots also if you remove the evo and put everything as it was before you touched it first time does the bios still detects it as usual ?

    model number is nhq1eaa003xxxxxxx
    snid is 7420xxxxxxx
the toshiba drive is sata and it worked before but now it doesn't work after i plugged into the 3rd port even if return to the slot it worked in before (the lowest slot)
the other drive is samsung evo 970 so yes its nvme and it doesn't work on any of the ports even though there exists one port s that supports nvme

well the toshiba drive used to work but now it doesn't , i think the laptop's port is faulty and just fries anything attached, although it doesn't even give that much power to begin with which is weird
    thx

Abob if its still on warranty i would contact acer support to send it it for diagnostics or a repair/replace if its not you could buy an m.2 usb adapter and check yourself if the drives are still working to rule them out as you said it might be the mobo itself and if its not on warranty its not cheap to get a replacement but if you need there is an Acer parts partner here in the community and he would probably be able to help you with any parts you would need regarding the full mobo im not so sure about that :) anyway if you need any parts you can pm him here @Kev0806

Abob if you know a reliable repair shop you can just go there for a full hardware diagnostic and see how it goes :)

    Hi, no problem and thx,
I have contacted acer and all they responded with is ,try updating the bios which is a process you will do on your own responsibilty and if you tried swapping the drives then your warranty is over :):):)
The worst response i have ever seen

I am glad you brought that out, i have noticed it and did press it for a while but still nothing,
does pressing it have the same effect as removing the cmos battery?
As i have that suspicion but i don't wanna go through the 1000 screws
  • Resetting the battery simulates a lithium battery disconnect and reconnect. Have you tested ssds on another computer?
