I just purchased a new 2.5 inch SATA 5TB HD. Since it's one of the biggest in the market, it is thicker than the standard 2.5-inch 2TB HDs. The bottom cover doesn't close. Is it possible to make room under neat the HD to make this thick HD fit? I don't want to leave this HD without the bottom cover on.

Ideally, that is never a safe option. I would rather suggest getting a HDD to USB 3 connector and using it like that. I have a 240 GB SSD connected this way, and it gives me pretty good speeds (at about 60% of actual advertised speeds when connected as SATA). A normal HDD would be slower though, mostly at a non workable speed when it comes to data intensive works.

Yeah, I decided to get a 1TB SSD HD instead. The 5TB SATA HD will be used as external HD via USB 3.0 after I find a proper enclosure that can fit that fat 2.5" HD. I figure this way, my son will be able to use this laptop for video editing and gaming (and whatever college work he gets to do.) Thanks for the input.

@hewhocanfly seems you bought a 2.5" hdd larger than 2tb (as you stated) there isnt any larger than 2tb that would fit you can only use those externally with a usb enclosure (as u seems you already did) the supported on all laptptops is 12mm (this is universal for all laptops no matter which manufacturer) and the largest its 2tb as i stated so my advice to everyone who might do the same is either you use it as external usb drive or return it, its alwasy better to research and find out the max specs first, i have a 5tb seagate on a 10gbps usb3.0/2.0/usb-c enclosure (https://www.startech.com/au/HDD/Enclosures/usb-3-1-enclosure-5-15mm-drive~S251BU31315) and its what i use to play most games no issues at all i recommend startech all the product i had so far from them are amazing including a dual m.2 sata enclosure to clone my original ssd into my 2tb ssd
