My Acer Predator G9-591 compatibility issue with some applications/games

Hi guys, I would like to consult this to everyone, this is my first time posting and I have this issue for quite a long time.

So the problem is, when im running a game or application that uses High performance NVIDIA processor, the game or application runs but shows only black screen, I can hear the sound of the game running.
Just like PUBG, when I upgrade my NVIDIA game driver to the latest compatible with my device, PUBG crashes whenever I run it. But when I degraded my NVIDIA game driver to 391.01, PUBG runs. But most games like COD BO4 isn't smooth, and some games like Tekken 7, My hero academia game, Soul Calibur XI doesn't run, it crashes as soon as i open it.

Another issue is for OBS Studio. I use integrated graphics for OBS for it to show the desktop when im using Display capture, although Game Capture doesn't work, it only shows black screen.
But when I change it to high performance nvidia processor, display capture shows only black screen, and almost everything is black screen.

I don't think that the applications or games has something to do with it.

I tried the following fix:
-Clean Reinstalling Game Driver
-Full system reformat
-Upgrading to latest nvidia game driver
-Degrading to almost all of nvidia game driver
-Used DDU for clean installation of NVIDIA
-Reinstalled the apps/games

Can anyone help me?

With the things you have tried, it likely comes down to an issue with the GPU itself.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

    Acer Predator G9-591
    Intel i7-6700HQ
    NVIDIA Geforce GTX 980M
    Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I'm sorry if I didn't include these informations. If it's the gpu, is it fixable?

You have to find your device from the list. Before updating make sure the battery is fully charged and the laptop plugged in.

@Roue also always check the minimum requirements for the games you are trying to play as the minimum recommended now its a 1050ti some games might not even run on older gpus it all depends on the devs allowing it or not when they code the games

SoulCalibur 6 Official PC System Requirements

    MINIMUM:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 7, 8.1, 10 (64-bit)
    • Processor: Intel Core i3-4160 @ 3.60GHz or equivalent
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 20 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX compatible soundcard or onboard chipset
    • RECOMMENDED:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 7, 8.1, 10 (64-bit)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5 GHz or equivalent
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1060 or equivalent
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 20 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX compatible soundcard or onboard chipset
PS you might have to consider upgrading laptop if you want to be bale to play recent games properly you should be fine with a 1060 but if you can go even higher (i'm pretty happy with my 1050ti runs everything i throw at it even anthem) so the choice is yours either keep what you have or go for someting else the 980m is really outaded now even my 1050ti can be called outaded these days and now with the new rtx laptops the gtx will be all outaded in a short time so the issue here is that you don't have enough gpu to run some of those games you want to run and those you are able to run will be only in really low graphic settings had a friend who had a 980 desktop version (not ti) he also had issues and crashes swapped gpu all sorted also acer factory drivers are customized to give you the best performance for your gpu but some 1060 functions like whispermode etc aren't available on stock drivers and some games require minimum 416 and up like Bf5 had to upgrade mine because i was forced to it will only runn the game on 416 all other drivers below are black screen but if you said tekken7 and bo4 don't run properly it's the gpu i can say i have them all and they all run fine here the other option you have is if you model has thunderbolt 3 port you could buy a egpu and run you games through it but it's not garanteed it would run properly either

It's not about the requirements, because I can pretty much run Final Fantasy XV on Medium specs. It's the gpu compatibility with some applications.
I'm a game developer and I finished a game for our thesis. I'm using Unity on integrated graphics because it only shows white screen when it's run on Nvidia processor. I executed the game I made and tried to run it with integrated graphics AND nvidia processor. Both of them only showed white screen on the game I made. BUT, when I transferred the game with my friend's laptop which is an Acer Nitro, IT RUNS on either integrated or Nvidia. So I'm guessing it's in the gpu.

I doubt it's the gpu if it was no other games would run  u just stated u can run FFXV so its not the gpu's fault but as i said what seems to me you are trying to make omelettes without eggs but ok seems u know what you are doing i already stated that your gpu is not powerfull enough but you say it is i won't comment myself in this thread again and u also stated youre a game developer so you should know better the gpu requirements for the apps that the devs use to develop 980m its not even close to what a dev would use

I am a bit late on this, but would I can confirm I have similar or almost the same issue.
Exact same laptop Acer Predator G9-591, only difference mine has a 970M.

I could find another thread of another user with the same issue and the same laptop:
    https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/557749/predator-g9-591-many-games-launch-with-blank-screen

So my guess would be to be an issue with NVIDIA and Intel drivers, which I hope Acer support could work on resolving, as I had this for almost a year now, some games with Unity will not play at all, some will after a lot of troubleshooting.
Bumping this to see if any solution has been found, wondering if I should contact Acer support directly, as my laptop is still under warranty.

Bumping this as I am having similar issues with my Predator 17 G9-791, 980M version.

The latest NVIDIA graphics drivers seem to have black screen on emulators like CEMU, and even graphics accelerated applications such as Adobe Illustrator GPU preview. Heck, even Andoid Studio's built in Android emulator doesn't seem to work well with latest NVIDIA drivers. A workaround I've found is to just run those applications with Integrated Graphics instead, but so far the only real solution is to rollback to NVIDIA drivers on Acer's website, which is like 2 years old and crashes latest titles like BFV and Witcher 3 for some reason.

Any feedback would be appreciated, older drivers that are tuned to my Predator is just too old to run newer games, and newer drivers seem to give issues with graphics hardware accelerated programs.

Try using 417.22 from nvidia or 399.24

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Yeah, using integrated graphics "fixes" the issues, but obviously many games and programs are useless with Integrated Graphics.
Sometimes changing the launch options for a game to run different DirectX version works as well, or using as launch option "-window-mode exclusive" seems to do the trick for some games.
It is mostly Unity games but not only, for example I have same issue with rFactor 2.
As comparison my older PC build with an NVIDIA GTX 960 is able to run all the games that have issues on the predator.

Reverting to older drivers may fix some games, but is not really a solution as you then encounter problems with newer games cause of the outdated drivers.

It's is honestly kinda ridiculous, it's a gaming laptop in the end, so it kinda defies the purpose if I cannot play many games for which I met the sys requirements.

I wonder if Acer support ever scouts this threads, otherwise I will try to contact them directly, since I am still under warranty, I waited patiently for updates to fix the issue but as stated it has been almost a year now and I am getting quite frustrated,

I have the same issue on my Acer Predator G9-592 with same CPU (i7-6700HQ) and GPU (GTX 980M). I'm stuck on NVIDIA driver version 390.77. If I install any newer versions, a few game launchers show as either black/frozen window or are completely invisible. Also, Fortnite will immediately crash with UE4-FortniteGame Crash error when starting it up.

Very disappointing for an expensive gaming laptop... :(

I have the same issues.  My games will not launch - they just go to back or non-responsive screens as seen in the posts above.

    (Predator 17 G9-791, 970M version)

The ONLY way it works is if I connect to an external monitor... mostly.  If I use the display port to a fancy monitor... works fine.  I have three monitors and two of them work, one doesn't.

This is SO frustrating to be hooked to my monitor when I want to play... this is why I bought a gaming LAPTOP... now I have to go plug in every time.

Escape from Tarkov, Fortnight, Overwatch, Boarderlands 3...

I have installed new chipsets, video drivers, rebuilt the whole system...

    Please HELP HELP!

First time Asus laptop buyer, and first time posting.  I am experiencing the same issues.  I cannot upgrade the Intel drivers, but there are current updates for Nvidia.  With Unity Engine games, I get no support until I disable intel.   I presume later drivers address the problem, but I cannot install them.   Conversely, when disabling intel but running NVIDIA, I find my
HDMI not working.   As pointed out above, very disappointing for a premium gaming platform.  I've been struggling with these issues from late 2018.  I have to do the dance of figuring out which graphics card supports the software I want to run and flipping on or off Intel (under Device Manager).  And loosing HDMI support when Intel is off.
