I was curious to know if I can boot from the SD card reader and sure enough you can! I was able to boot Linux, CloudReady and Windows ISOs. Awesome!

Does anyone know if the SD card reader is USB 2.0 or PCIe speeds?

I think CrystalDiskInfo freeware will test speeds and give info for SD cards and your reader. There are other HDD/SSD speed test freeware. I'm gonna guess they're pretty slow --- less than 50% as fast as a garden variety m.2 SATA3 SSD. Jack E/NJ
