I have ph317-52. Problem is my keyboard backlit goes off (after couple of seconds of not being used ) while connected to power like its running on battery. This happened after windows 10 reinstall. The backlit no longer stays active for unlimited time while connected to power. I didn't have problem before I reinstalled the windows. All drivers from acer website are installed. I also noticed that power connecting sound( the beep) is gone too. Maybe the 2 problems are connected?!

    Did you try this
Press function key (Fn) + F9 to turn the lighting on or off

Yes I know this combo toggles it on/off but after some time of not pressing a key it goes again off ( like when the laptop is on battery) . My point is that it behaves the same on power and on battery. Goes off after some time. It used to stay continously when im on power before. (not going off automatically)

Ok i understand sir. please try the below steps:
power drain: Just check the back of the unit, you can find a pin hole , unplug the charger and turn off the unit. now put a paper clip in the small pin hole and press and hold it for 30 Sec.
If the power drain did not work, please uninstall the keyboard driver from the device manager and restarted the unit.

Tried what you suggested. Still the same. Also no power cable plug in/unplug sound(beep).

I think it is not windows related problem because when I boot up the laptop it goes on than after couple of seconds goes off. If I press a key it goes on again so the problem persists even before windows load up. Hm

Here is a post from other forum.
"From a German user the same information: After flashing BIOS 1.22 the keyboard backlight goes out after 30 seconds, even though mains power is used.
Really a strange idea from Acer, if it was intended. If there doesn't come a patch, I will not flash version 1.22 on my AN515-52!"

I updated the bios couple of days ago and I haven't seen the problem till now. It is from the new bios. I'm sorry for wasting you time and thank you for all the support. I really hope they revert it back in future updates!!!

Want to inform the intended behavior of the backlight on all Nitro's 5 and Acer models is to always turn off 30 seconds after the last key stroke, this is not a bug but a feature (is not new), and it is a power saver (it does save on battery life)

I really hope they revert it in future updates. I don't need power save when I am connected to power source.....

dont upgrade to latest bios or if u did just downgrade it....it is working fine now for me with keyboard light always on ...on AC power.
Sadly acer wont admit that the new bios version is bugged.

You are completely wrong here the new bios 1.22 its not bugged that feature was intended to work as it is to save battery even on ac maybe they will disable it in the next update because of all the complaints but this is not a bug its a built in feature which cannot be deactivated as far as i know

The new bios update 1.25(Implement KB lighting timeout function) is also not working! Keyboard back-lit is still turning off after 30 seconds.

    Hi all,

The new BIOS version 1.25 has a "Keyboard Lighting Timeout" option added to the BIOS menu, this will allow users to Disable the option to have the Keyboard Backlight on at all times when on AC power.

RageRemix - you have to change this option from the BIOS menu.

BIOS updates available for download https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7572?b=1

    Thanks,

Sixfootdig As i stated in the thread you had previously opened the only way to know is if you contact acer directly and suggest it because you model its one of the older ones probably bios updates will be rarely released unless its to correct a serious hardware compatibility issue etc :)

PS: the latest bios for my G3-572 its also 1.22 (im on 1.20 since i got it and not moving up due to the backlit timeout feature :) ) and as far as im aware the bios are all the same for all G3-57X models

I'm just wondering have you tried to downgrade to 1.19/1.20 instead to see if you issue still persists after the downgrade i can confirm 1.19/1.20 works fine at least on mine never had a single issue

There's no backlight timeout feature while plugged on for G3-572 in v1.22.

XdxD glad to know as there aren't any specs about each bios functions added in each update anywhere for any model (not moving up anyway 1.20 works fine :p ) but i know in fact the nitro 1.22 bios has the timeout and only upgrading to the latest you can disable it :)
