So three times this week my laptop has shutdown after about 4 hours of gaming (it was plugged in), both with the CPU at normal voltage and undervolting, no warning messages or notifications about low battery.  Since this happened twice already this week, today after 1.5 - 2 hours of playing, I checked battery status and it was above 75%, but then about 2+ hours later low power shutdown, so it seems like maybe there is a critical drain happening.  Acer care center app says battery attention needed, a scan says that "battery life is degraded due to normal usage".  As far as I know the battery is only supposed to drain to 30% then stop, which it did since day one of owning it, but it is not doing this now.  The laptop is about a year and a half old so no warranty, but honestly if this is normal I am shocked.

My concern is that this makes my laptop mostly useless as a gaming laptop, and none of the 5 other gaming laptops I have owned in the last 15 years has done this when the battery was degraded.  No changes to my system or anything else in the last few weeks.  Anyone else had this problem?  Ideas/ suggestions? Acer any defects in the batteries is laptops sold in Asia in 2016?

it seems like the battery is old and can not handle much power...you can purchase a new battery by contacting acer
You have totally missed the point of the post! When plugged in and gaming the battery completely drains.  Batteries degrade = shorter usage time when only on battery, yes normal.  It should not drain the battery completely when plugged in, that's the whole point of plugging it in.

i understand that the laptop is not charging the battery while gaming right?
You could try reinstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant control method battery driver, go to Device manager, expand Batteries, go to Properties of Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method battery, uninstall the driver and reboot to let Windows install the driver
    try this,

The laptop is charging when plugged in, and I have already tried that ACPI reinstall.  Simply put, it seems like power demand from gaming is exceeding power input, as Acer has said that some power drain is "part of the design" as stated below, BUT at 30% battery level this should stop, and in past it has on marathon gaming sessions 12+ hours.

    Hi Blizzard99,

No, this is how the system actually gets the most gaming power. The device is designed to use battery while on AC Power when the GPU is enabled. At 30% it will stop using the battery and keep it charged. You may notice a slight decrease in performance while under 30% battery power. Our content team is working to get this together in an FAQ.

    Hope this helps,
    Cory

Asad, stop posting please! YOU ARE NOT HELPING ME. And I feel you have not been reading carefully the details of my problem, since ur previous comments are negated by info in my first post.
    EG.
#1 plugged in laptop = not need new battery... cuz plugged in should give power.
#2 I stated that I know a plugged in laptop will use battery power, but NOT below 30%

To answer you its been  Fortnite once, and Civ 6 twice. I easily meet Fortnite's specs, and for Civ 6 I run at ultimate settings, but undervolt the CPU due to Predators notorious heat output.  Civ 6 for the last 1.5 years has never dropped battery % below 70 on a 10-12 hour session.

OK, finally you have maybe given me some useful information, but NOT REALLY as you have not given any information on this "230W adapter" a) who makes it, b) is it certified to work with Acer n not fry the rig?, c) do u have this, can you attest to its usefulness and safety? d) have u ever had a power issue with ur Acer laptop. e) Are u just googling this issue n posting things here to try to be a "skilled fixer"???

IF YOU ANSWER NO to any of these questions, then PLEASE stop posting, as I am looking for people who can provide constructive input! And also Acer input

Finished trying to keep CIVIL, I ALREADY said I know about battery drain when plugged in and posted info about Acer's responce to this. ***** Asad814 read a post fully and then please also read the description in ur power adapter link, it DOES NOT STATE comparability with a G9-591, and my question to you was have you used it and it has not fried ur rig.

Sorry Acer if I have not followed your terms of service for forums! BUT if I have, can you please delete asad814 comments from this post as I really WANT some constructive feedback from members, thought, Acer is who i really want to hear from.
To Acer, I posted as I feel a laptop should not die when plugged in with no other apps/programs running than a game, on a lean efficient machine, i7, 6700HQ, GTX980m, 16GM Ram, after startup +1 minute CPU usage 5-7%, memory 21-26%, GPU 1%. Antivirus runs n so does Logitech keyboard, mouse n controller, this has been my setup since I bought it in 2016.

asad814... A laptop has two power options, not plugged in and X time to use OR OR OR OR plugged in and is just like a desktop, IT SHOULDN'T die from power loss.  Dude u r starting to troll me STOP posting another off topic/ tangent/ issue I have already stated is not helpful.
