Hello,

I have my acer VN7 for approximatively 6 months now and since a month now it randomly freezes with a blue wheel cursor. When this happen I have no other option than forcing shut down. Ctrl-alt-del doesnt works. I have tryied to factory reset it (using acer tool) and reinstalling windows, unfortunately nothing have change, I even have the feeling that the crashes occurs more often than before the reset.

Both of my drive are working fine.

Anyone had the same problem? I'd rather not have to send it to warranty since i use my computer for my work.

My specs:

i7 6700HQ

16Go RAM

GTX960M

    1) check BIOS version

    windows logo key + r

    type

    msinfo32

    check BIOS DATE/Version

if it's lower than 1.12, please update the BIOS:

    https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_1.12_A_A.zip?acerid=636178324853669368&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20VN7-592G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

    2) do a memory check

    press windows logo key

    type

    memory

    click on windows memory diagnostic

    click on Check now

    and do a quick test

Thanks for the reply Smiley Happy

My BIOS wasnt up to date, this is now fix. Even though I dont really understand how an outdated BIOS would cause such damage, but let's see if it changes something (just restarted my computer).

    No problem regarding the memory.

    Thanks again

    it still freeze or reboots?

    check this:

    download this tool, whocrashed:
    http://www.resplendence.com/download/whocrashedSetup.exe

before running it, browse to C:\windows\minidump
delete all files apart the first 2-3 files (newest)
then install whocrashed and run it
    click on Analyze
    report here the result.

Yup still freeze/crashes! I dont have any mini dump file (except one in a firefox directory so i guess it's not the right one).

OK so after i ran the test it appears that crash dumps arnt written out :

    Crash Dump Analysis

    Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

No valid crash dumps have been found on your computer

    Conclusion

Crash dumps are enabled but no valid crash dumps have been found. In case you are experiencing system crashes, it may be that crash dumps are prevented from being written out. Check out the following article for possible causes: If crash dumps are not written out.

    ok.

so it's harder to find out the culprit, try to notice if some programs or other things can trigger the freeze.

you can try to turn off wifi and check if it still freeze.

if you have any third party antivirus, please uninstall it.

My V5-591G-50MJ just froze today on youtube (chrome), and even task manager wasn't responding well so I restarted, and as it was shutting down, I got an error message. It also crashed on it's own the other day. Just bought this a few days ago refurbished and now I'm concerned. My BIOS is out of date, so I'll do that now, but how can I find out what caused that crash? Event viewer gave no usable information.

And delete third party antivirus software?!

    Hey there,

So after a few tries to figure out what was causing the freezes, i couldnt point out exactly what was the cause. I decided to send my computer to warranty!

Not sure if they'll comunicate on what was causing the freeze, if so I'll let you know!
    Thanks again for the help
