G3-710 external fan socket

I would like to add an external 92mm fan to the back of my case, to help draw air through the case more quickly.

Q:   On the motherboard there is an additional unused fan power socket, labeled "fans2 fans1."

This looks exactly like the CPU fan socket, and my guess is that this is an active 4-pin PWM socket.

Does anyone know for sure whether this an active 3-pin fan socket or a 4-pin PWM fan socket?

  • Hello,

As the Smart fan is not configurable, you have to install this case fan (2500rpm - PWM):

    Spoiler
    DC.10911.005FAN.SYS.12V.2500RPM (Link for picture)

    PWM = 4 Pin

May be you could request a quote and place order from your Acer store.

In case anyone else might search this question:

On the G3-710 motherboard, the "external fan" socket is a 4-pin PWM, and the motherboard will recognize the presence of the fan and adjust its speed up and down in parallel with the CPU fan.  The BIOS also recognizes the fan and it will show the rpm in the BIOS information screen.

The external fan is a 92mm meant to fit the unused cutout at the back of the case.  I suggest using the silicone mounts to keep fan noise to a minimum.  This is a cheap and functional upgrade to the system.

  • Hello,

    What fan did you install?

Does the RPM limit of the fan matter? I was going to install this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H3SVWF4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A28VADU4WUGJ11

The RPM says 500-1800. Is that ok?

I was also considering this fan because I saw the 4 pin connector on the Sunon fan seemed really short and probably wouldn't reach from the motherboard connections to the back of the case.

Just installed the Arctic AC FAN and all seems to work ok.  It has a 4 pin connector and is controlled by the BIOS.  The connection in the top right, just beside the RAM modules.

here's another view showing the cable connector better in the red circle, as well as the RAM sockets.  Notice how I routed the cable around the molex connector to keep it away from the CPU fan.
