V3-772 Windows 10 upgrade fail - wont boot just hangs with the acer logo screen

Hi guys

I have just had my computer in for repairs and the ssd disk was changed. I was running windows 10 before and everything was perfect until an update ruined it all. Long story wont go into that Smiley Happy

Anyway so i unstall all my software and do an update to windows 10. All the preps and so seems to go fine. Then it reboots and is stuck. Never moves. I see faint HDD activity but i let it run for 8 hours and still nothing, still gangs in the acer boot window. It is after the bios load, because i can access that if i am fast and press f2.

After a while i gave up and thought perhaps it was just a fluke so i used my recovery dvd's and reinstalled my system and office and outlook and .... After about 5 hours installation my system was ready to go. So i decided lets try again. And yet again same failure. Simply hangs with the Acer Logo.

I called Microsoft and the told me to do a startup repair. However that is not possible, i can get it into the repair mode but none of the functions work. So they said it was a hardware thing but everywhere i look it states the v3-772 should have no problem with the windows 10.

I am normally quite good at fixing my own problems but in order to fix a problem i need an error or errorcode or something to go from. Does anyone have any idea what to do?

    ncmohr,

I'm not completely sure what the problem is, but I will tell you this.  When I look at Acer's Windows 10 drivers and BIOS for your computer model and see that there are some Windows 8 drivers and an old BIOS, that's a really bad sign......especially if you're trying to get Windows 10 Anniversary to work on your computer.

I don't have your computer model, but I'll give you a bunch of links that may or may not help you get some version of Windows 10 installed on your computer.

If you're trying to do an "in place" upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 Anniversary, then the link below and photo below might help.....but I doubt it.

Edit: I have no idea if you should be using the drivers on Acer's download website or just use the updated drivers that Windows automatically gives you.  Or a combination of both.  Try to start with the drivers that Microsoft automatically gives you.  It might take hours for you to figure it out....unfortunately.

Edit2:  On Acer's website, they gave you windows 8.1 chipset driver and Intel Management Engine Interface driver. And I suspect the reason they did that is because they didn't update your BIOS.

Yes, you should have no problem getting Windows 10 TH1 or TH2 working.  But redstone1 (anniversary) will probably never work without a BIOS update from Acer.  And that's probably never going to happen for your computer model.

If you clean install TH2 and have problems, then you may have to install the chipset driver and Intel management engine driver from Acer's website.

After you install TH2, you should wait though.  Don't install drivers from Acer's website unless you have to.  But it's impossible for me to tell you what you should do about drivers because I don't have you computer model.  However, I don't think it's an accident that they gave you Windows 8 chipset driver and Windows 8 Intel MEI driver.  They had a reason for doing that.  And I'm pretty sure the reason is because you have a BIOS that doesn't contain the updated ME firmware (among other things).

    1. Windows 10 TH1 (July 2015)

    2. Windows 10 TH2 (November 2015)

    3. Windows 10 redstone1 anniversary (August 2016)

Sorry to ask but once i get my windows installed will it then be able to update. Reason i ask is originally i had windows10 on the machine but after an update i stopped being able to boot. So might this have been a BIOS problem with an updated version or would an update always be able to run?

No reason to install windows 10 if an update fubars my computer again. Alone installing from the media takes 4 hours. another 2 to add office and essentials. So reinstalling from scratch just isnt my idea of fun especially since i have done it twice already Smiley Happy

I'm not sure.  I can't guarantee anything.  If you're ok with Windows 8.1 and don't like the possibilty of having problems with Windows 10, then it might be best to stick with Windows 8.1.  Windows 8.1 is a really good OS in my opinion.  And your computer was designed to work with Windows 8.1.....not Windows 10.

Well Thanks for your solution. It surely worked installing an old windows 10. I am appalled however that a new bios update isnt released. My computer is only 1 year old and has warrenty for 3 more years! (I bought the 4 year service care)

    You're welcome.

You can try to clean install the Anniversary edition if you want.  It *might* work.  Maybe at a later date after some bugs are worked out it would be safer to try anniversary.  I'm not 100 percent certain that your current BIOS will prevent you from running Anniversary.

But since Kobr4_C had problems too, I would definitely recommend that you wait several months before attempting.
