Power on Screen on Aspire 9500

I used an Aspire 93500 laptop with Windows XP.

When XP retired, also the screen started deterioratingand I gave it retirement using Xubuntu Linux.

The screen slowly gave up, and I connected a spare monitor. Enough to play with, but not mobile...

Now I was given an almost identical Aspire 9500, that was equipped with Windows 7. Slow as hell, of course.

Now I want to give it Xubuntu as well, but I cannot get the machine to boot from the DVD. It also does not show the Acer logo and the Start-up options (F2 or F12 while booting) like my first one does.

Just trying F2 or F12 stops the booting with a beep of about 5 seconds

What can be done?

Shut the machine off. Try to start tapping F2 at the same time that you power up.

I had shut the machine off every time before booting. Now you inspired me to really shut it completely down: disconnected AC, removed battery, went down for dinner, and geared up again.

    All is well now.

    Xubutu installing!

    Thanks

Great job! Sounds like your bios had a small access glitch that might've needed to be re-set. Congrats.
