Can I put a "POWER" icon on my taskbar?

I'm running Windows 8.1 on my brand new ASPIRE TC-115. There's no POWER icon on the desktop. I have to go to the TILES page to reboot or turn the computer off. Is there a way to get that POWER icon over to my desktop taskbar?

(I know this sounds lazy, but I actually bought this for my husband ~ and he is just learning how to use any computer. It would be so much easier to have everything in one place!)

THANK YOU!!

    Hi kelbel

    Try the following:

Right click an empty space on your desktop. Click New, then Shortcut

    A box will appear. Type shutdown.exe /s /t 00 then click "Next"

    Name it Shutdown. Click "Finish".

Right click the Shutdown icon. Select Properties. Click on "Change Icon..." Click "OK" if you get a message about Shutdown.exe contains no icons.

On the box that is displayed, click the red square with a white circle in it :

Capture.JPGthen click "OK", then click "Apply" then "OK" again

Finally, right click icon & select "Pin to Taskbar"

    Hope this helps!

WoW! That was a QUICK RESPONSE! LoL...

Thank you SO MUCH, FINLUX. I will try this right now! (I'm wondering why it isn't just "there" in the first place)

    I REALLY appreciate your help!

    Thanks again!

    sorry to bother you again...

Can I also have OPTIONS on the POWER icon? Like SLEEP & RESTART??

btw... I did do what you told me to do in this thread. It DID WORK! So, THANKS FOR THAT!!

I've become SO USED TO having all POWER options come up when I've used the icon in the past ~ on the same OS, different computer. I always ASSUMED this icon was a standard thing on the taskbar.

If you can't help me with this new part of my question, that's ok. I'll just go back to using the tiles page. But, can you please let me know?

I appreciate your help ~ SO MUCH!

    Hello again Smiley Happy

    Same procedure as above, except:

    RESTART

    Type: Shutdown -r -t 00

    and rename it "Restart"

    SUSPEND (Hibernate)

    Type: rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState

and rename it "Suspend" (or "Hibernate"!)

One thing to note, if wish to change the icon, but there are no icons displayed in the box. its the same as above, BUT if then change the text (circled) to

    C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll

    Other options:

    1. In the bottom left corner of the desktop screen is the Windows Start button.  Right click on it and you'll see shutdown options.

    2. Some Acer computers come with Pokki in the desktop taskbar.  Try clicking on Pokki and you'll see Shutdown/power options.

If your computer is brand new, you may need to check Windows update to get the dozens of Windows 8.1 updates.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
