Annoying Registration pop-ups

I am getting the acer registration popup....I am registered and do not want this popping up constantly. There is no

program in Startup doing this.  I tried Google but the answers said to go to startup. I guess I will Search for warreg_popup.exe if I can find it and disable it.  by the way the box that says I can check to not get the popup is on the screen but is not alive and I am not allowed to check it.  VERY ANNOYING! It constantly pops up on starting my computer and will not go away until I start using programs.

Well..I solved it.  I don't know if 1 or both of what I did was the answer but I believe it was this one:

Using my desktop shortcut to regedit, I went to HKCU\Software\OEM\AcerCoud\

I saw the Data DontRemindMeAgain  set to Hex 0.  Since this was my exact wording with a checkbox that did not

allow a check to be placed in it.................and since Hex 0 can mean something is turned on..I set it to

Hex 1 which should mean Yes, Dontremindmeagain.  And, the annoying message that won't get off screen is gone.

Before I found that one..I did see in the registry RUn section to run

    C:\PF(x86)Acer\abfiles\aBFilesTrayIcon....and deleted the run instruction.

Either one of these can be easily put back as it was; however, the annoyance is gone and I am enjoying the

"peace and quient" of something not wanting to get off my screen.

I do not get such popups. but I would look in Task Manager to see if you can find it there, then you will be able to DISABLE or STOP as needed... if it starts every time you start the computer, then it surely will show...

Hi...I did check Task Manager and nothing tbere for acer. I tried a search on my Acer for the file warreg_popup.exe which someone on Google would be the problem. Windows Search did not find that file. I went into the Registry to see what is set up to run on startup and found something about acer so I just deleted it. Maybe it is the answer. I haven't tried restarting yet.  All suggestions are very much appreciated.  I also found something in the registry that looked like the sentence on the popup where it says to check to stop reminders but not allow any checking in the box.  The registry item said the same thing and had a hex 0 ....indicating to me that a 1 would work like the check in the box so I did that too.

I will post back on next restart to let you know if I got rid of it.

Your reply suggests to me that you are not a complete novice (reference to &0/&1 : no/yes)!! However, may I make a suggestion (without teaching you to suck eggs): If you are unsure of a registry entry that you intend to delete, export it first. Then, if you do make an error, you can easily import the entry from file.

I assume you found the entry in the 'RUN' key. This is the most likely place after actually adding to the 'Startup' folder.
It is also worth checking that it has not been added as a service or Scheduled Task.

As long as you have a retore point set prior to your delete. so if that jammed your boot then you can still restore back.

many reg entries if removed. can cause to failure to BOOT. so not to teach yu to suk eggs. i do hope you have the proper cmd to restore from a made restore point.. from Boot Media

I ask a fellow Acer user also, in Tech and this is his reply. Use the following steps to to disable the registration reminder program: 1. Press the Windows (Image: icon_Windows_key.png) key + R. 2. Type msconfig and click OK. 3. Select the Startup tab and clear the WarReg_PopUp or RegReminder check box. 4. Click OK to close the window and restart the system. If this does not work - then Ill ask him for a different solution....

You may wish to read my response a little more carefully.
    However, to help you:

    1. Registry deletions can cause you to destroy Windows let alone cause boot failure hence, in the least disastrous case, export/import can allow you to reinstate without resorting to a restore point which may include actions that you do not wish restored.

    2. At no point did I suggest the use of restore points.

    3. Your reference to the use of msconfig may well work should the cause be in the 'RUN' key but it is hardly the cleanest solution as it fails to remove an undesired registry entry. Continuing in this fashion is likely to result in a 'RUN' key populated with any number of commands that have simply been disabled using msconfig. That is not really the purpose in my view - it is more for troubleshooting.

    4. msconf will not help you should the cause be a 'service', scheduled task or other.

As stated also, my suggestiong can from a Acer Tech Friend of mine... and it also seems the best solution for me, but any reg edit, can cause failure to boot, and or windows failure. I then suggest the MS method to fix, the easy way. before you screw with the registry make a restore point. MS recommended. then edit the reg or use msconfig, which ever one choses... then you have to reboot to find if the "method" actually works... if it causes a NOT Bootable then that is when i suggest the MS method to restore back to the Restore Point. which can be via command prompt. so I do hope my method does assist in the removal of Acer Notification to register.... since that notification - popup can be annoying. they also might simply chose to TURNOFF all Notification.

My recomendation is preventive, to avoid installing unwanted or hidden add ons.

But the question in OP was how to stop the popup for Acer registration, which they have NO method to NOT INSTALL. as my recommendation is who to stop that Notification. or remove that notification. since it really is not a POPUP but is classified as a Notification.

Sorry didn't mean to leave a letter out:

    HKCU\Software\OEM\AcerCloud

is the correct wording to go to (OEM is just my computer name)

By the way, it is true you always have to be careful accessing the Registry in any version of Windows.  Since Windows98 each Registry associated with an OS has been my second home.  I do shorten my answers as in HKCU refers to the RegistryKey HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

I just wanted to explain there is more in an answer than exactly what you see printed.  If you are unfamiliar with certain terminology......just ask about further clarification.....that's how we all learn....  I have written short Machine Language programs in the past and also BASIC, DBASE etc.  When I mention a value is written in Hexidecimal and represents a zero and changing it in Hex to a ONE, it is simple when one knows what the value in the Registry will look like when it is represented by a Hex Value,

Never hesitate to ask questions, especially if an answer involves changing the Registry file.

Acer registration is in Add/Remove Programs, as it is in Toshiba, HP, and Compaq Computers, you can disable or remove it once you register with the Manufacturer.

I never had any of those Brands so I never ran into a registration problem before. This is also my first Acer and its subscription.  I looked in my list of programs for the Acer list. There are 9 listed. None have the word Registration in

the name. Of the 9 I imagine maybe Acer Launch Manager or Acer Portal might be the ones to remove after

registration but that is only a guess. I hesitate to start executing a program where I have no idea what it wil do

when launched. Or to remove a program and wonder if I wanted what it provided when launched.

If I hadn't found the exact language I was looking for...to turn off a Reminder from Acer.....I may have started

launching all the Acer programs with my fingers crossed....as I would feel as though I were flying blind.

If Acer would allow a user to checkmark the box they put on the screen with the words Dont remind me again,.

stopping the reminders on every startup would be taken care of.  It is their programming mistake to put a box

on the screen and not making it ""live" for the user.

But then that is why this is such a good idea to have this Acer Community Forum. Users can learn from each

other as well as from the Acer Technical Staff how to enjoy their Acer and use it to its full potential. No one

is perfect and I believe the Acer programmers want to know how their creations are working for users.  They have

to create for non-technical users as well as experienced users and that is a difficult task. Kudos to their help and this

community for being here to advise and help in such a positive way.

    techgal,

I found this article we created regarding that warranty registation pop-up, if you could give it a try for me: How do I get rid of the registration pop-up reminder?

I did try your suggestion.  It is a neat place to go. I will remember in the future. As to the purpose,

the file WarReg_popup was not listed.  That may be because my Registry adjustment did get rid of the popup.

Maybe that automatically removed it from the startup listing.  This would be a good suggestions in a Q&A section

in the community.  I got as far as the Startup Page and saw the lists of items running but the WarReg_popup was not

listed at this time.  I will use this suggestion in the future when I need to check on running items. Thank you for

    the information.

About checking solved at the bottom of a post....I didn't see how to do that..thinking maybe cause it was my own post

that solved it for me....did not have the place to check my post as a solution to my own problem. If you can check it

for me...I think it would really help others as a solution to try....in addition to the one you just posted here.

I will never know if the War....exe would have been in that Startup since I was able to change the Registry to stop the reminder.

I will go ahead and mark the post as a solution as well.
