I cannot get the microphone to work in Swift 3. The front one does not pick up and plugged headphones into the back and microphone bit and still nothing

Have you give the OS permission to use the microphone? It's under Settings/Privacy.

It's going to help a lot if you'll tell us what computer you have, which OS you are running and what app is trying to use the microphone... :)

I have an Acer Swift 3 with Alexa built in but the microphone doesn't work with Alexa or Zoom. I've tried the microphone privacy settings and they all seen in order. I reset them, as recommended, but still not working. Any help is appreciated.

I'm going to say the same thing... There are lots and lots of different Swift 3 models. Does the mic work correctly in sound settings?

It's a Swift SF314-42 with Windows 10 home version 21H1, OS build 19043.1110, and Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0. Running on an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics 2.00 GHz and 8GB RAM.

And no, it does not work correctly in sound settings.

Do you have an external mic you can test with? I'd be nice to know if the problem is the mic hardware or something in the drivers...

Both USB and Bluetooth mics work well.

    Hi Salamanders,

    Good to know.

OK, so it's not likely to be the software. Are you also having any issues with the camera? The mic and camera are on the same little daughter card. I'm leaning toward bad hardware, but don't want to going to the trouble of replacing it only to find it's something else...

OK, there are two camera/mic modules Acer had for your model, both the same, just from different vendors. The Acer part numbers are: KS.0HD06.019 and KS.0HD0Q.009. The camera/mic module is connected to the MB through the same eDP cable as provides the video. Since that cable goes through where the hinges are it gets flexed. It is possible that there is a wire that cracked in the cable and that's the root cause of the problem...
The one thing software-wise we haven't addressed is the fact that there are dual mics on the card. There might be a special driver to handle that that wouldn't show up when testing with an external mic. If you haven't already you might try a full uninstall of all audio drivers/utilities (make sure they are set to delete the files) and then reinstall from the Acer support site.

    Two questions:
    1. Can you specify the drivers to uninstall/reinstall, please?
    2. How and where can I get the modules you indicated repaired or replaced?

Use Device Manager to view and delete the audio drivers, they are likely under Audio Inputs and Outputs. Any competent technician can do the Camera module replacement. Unless you are really handy inside a computer I'd have a professional do it. Although it's pretty easy anything that involves pulling the display out (which is where the module is) means taking it farther apart than the easy stuff like drives and memory.

If the drivers don't work, this is clearly a warranty item, right?

Nope, warranty needs the hardware to be an issue, not software. If it truly is the camera module then that's hardware and warranty covers it, as long as you are still within the warranty period.
