I think there's some hardware issue with my laptop, I'm not sure whether it's worth trying to fix. Here are the symptoms

  • often upon reboot it will request bitlocker key, not always, seems to be more lately than before
  • during use, there will be a notification of hardware change either the C drive harddrive or the realtek wifi card, i did not change any of the hardware
  • very high pitch whine or tone when in hibernation or when shutdown, checking after 8 hours overnight, whine is still there!
  • sleep doesn't really work, it will go to sleep and then it seems to crash and go into hibernation, not the expected sleep. you see the acer logo upon waking it up. There's no hybrid sleep activated, and also the apps that were open seemed to have crashed. Now i don't put it to sleep, i either shut it down or hibernate, but recently it doesn't even want to hibernate! i'll select hibernate and it'll try , but just go to sleep!

anyway that's about it! like it's still useable and is snappy, the performance hasn't really been affected, but I was considering upgrading the ram and the harddrive, but if these symptoms indicate a failing motherboard maybe i don't want to spend the money! however also thinking perhaps changing the components will fix it!

any thoughts tips? Thanks Acer fam :)

You don't say just which model you have, maybe a P414-41? That's an AMD based system from last year… Are you running Windows 11? You might try using the Acer reset procedure. Back up your data to be safe first. Restart and press Alt-F10 to get into the recovery menu and follow the prompt to do the reset. That will reload the OS along with the Acer utilities and such.
