    Hi

I hope you are in your best health
It is normally possible to install Pentium dual core mobile processors, but there is an outside chance of installing a Core 2 duo into CPU as well.

i hope it helps if you are still confused just let me know
    Thanks

“calvindude” first of all, what is the CPU that you have with your Aspire 4730Z that came with your laptop? As the Aspire 4730Z came with many different CPU’s and these are the types and models from Acer:

    • CPU INTEL P575 2G LF80537NF0411M SLB6M M0 TBD
    • CPU INTEL P585 2.16G LF80537NF0481M SLB6L M0
    • CPU INTEL T1600 1.66G LF80537NF0281MN SLB6J M0
    • CPU INTEL T1700 1.83G LF80537NF0341MN SLB6H M0
    • CPU INTEL T3200 2G LF80537GF0411M SLAVG M0
    • CPU INTEL T3400 2.16G LF80537GF0481M SLB3P M0
    • CPU INTEL T5800 2G LF80537GG041F SLB6E M0
    • CPU INTEL T5900 2.2G LF80537GG049F SLB6D M0

As shown above, the Aspire 4730Z came with either P type (which is the lowest specs) or the higher spec T type CPU’s and the “T” types are a core named “Merom” and its a “Socket P” type processors so is this what you have? As you can upgrade this P type CPU to what I would suggest and to a max and higher spec of the Core 2 Duo T7800 (2 cores, 2 threads, 2.6 GHz, FSB 800 MHz, L2 Cache 4MB, TPD 35W) as this CPU would be the best and the max upgrade that I would put into this laptop, don’t upgrade to any CPU’s that are higher spec like the Core 2 Extreme X7900

    Core 2 Duo T7700

Also and if you want to upgrade this Aspire 4730Z anymore? Upgrade to an SSD hard drive and you must have the max memory for this laptop to perform any good of these type of specs e.g. the 2x 2GB either Hynix or Samsung DDR-2 memory:

With the motherboard, there is only one type of board that came from Acer with all the Aspire 4730Z laptops, it’s the “MAINBOARD AS4330 INTEL GL40 ICH9 LF WITH ALL – Acer part number: MB.ATV02.001” like in the caption below that had the last BIOS update of the Version: 1.20 Date: 2009/04/22 titled “BIOS” from Acer, if the motherboard that you bought is the right one and the exact model? Then you should have no problems with like you say “A new motherboard failed to read the bios, and the old CPU is not matching up with the new motherboard” as the CPU should fit and the motherboard should take the Acer BIOS as listed above.

Give us more details of what CPU and Motherboard that you have bought as your problems are not usual and you must have done something wrong and bought the wrong motherboard and CPU.
